The driving age should not be changed to 21. Many teens cannot wait for the day to go and get their driver's license. If the driving age is changed it will make kids be depended on their parents all the time. Teens death are usaully from a accidental car crash. Changing the driving age to 21 will not teach teens the importance of driving. Teens would also not be forced to get a job. This would make teens be very lazy. Teens would struggle having transportation to highschool or college. This could cause teens to skip out or even not go to college.
If teens do not get their license at 17 they will be depending on their parents for everything. If teens want to go to the movies with their friends they will have to ask their parents to bring them. In the article titled “States Should Raise Driving Age” a mother named Margaret Menotti states, “Do we really want our kids dependent upon parents for virtually everything until they go to college, can vote and serve their country?"(NBC News, page 1) Parents of teens don’t agree with changing the driving age either. Parents spend a lot of time driving their kids around when their little, now the children are finally teens and the parents still have to constantly drive their kids everywhere. Teens mostly die of car accidents, older people usually die from illnesses. In the article, “Should We Raise the Legal Driving Age” it states, “The fatal crash rate per mile driven for 16-19 year-olds is nearly 3 times the rate for drivers ages 20 and over.”(Lund, page 1) This shows that teens mostly pass away from an accidental car crash. A person in their 30’s will know a lot more about driving than a teen who is just starting to drive on the road. New drivers cannot be compared to a person who has been driving for ten years.
