In the novel “The Diary of Laura’s Twin by Kathy Kacer is about a girl named Laura who is having her bat mitzvah and gets assigned to do a project about a kid from the holocaust who never had got the chance to have a bat mitzvah. Laura gets a diary from an old woman but does not know it’s her diary from when she was a little girl. As she reads it learns that the girl Sara is around her age and is living in the Warsaw ghetto during the holocaust with her bother, sister, mom, dad, grandpa, grandma and her best friend Deena. As Laura is reading the book in her life she goes throw problems with her friends and other kids from her school destroying gravestones.
Characters:
There are many charters in this book like the two main ones Laura Wyman and Sara Gittler. They are both about 14 years old. Laura is the main charter of the present time and Sara is the main charter in the diary. They are both smart girls. Laura has a younger sister named Hinda and her two best friends Nix and Adam. Laura, her friends and family all live in a small town. Sara also has a younger sister and a brother Named David and her best friend Denna. They all live in the Warsaw Ghetto.
Narration:
The narration in “The Diary of Laura’s Twin” is in 3rd person because the story is not written by Laura or Sara and does not say I or my.
Setting:
The novel takes place in many different places between the diary and real life. In the diary the main places are the apartment that Sara lives in, the courtyard in Warsaw ghetto. In the diary, Sara goes outside into the normal town to get food. In real life Laura goes to school, her home, Mrs. Mandelcorns home who is Sara and the graveyard.

Differences:
In the story “The Diary of Laura’s Twin” by Kathy Kacer and the memoir "Night" By Elie Wiesel also have many differences like narration, setting and overall treatment. One difference is in the book it does not go into detail about what happened after they got transported because she hid the diary when she had to go and in the memoir it goes into detail about what happened in the camps and on the train ride there. Another is in the book it does not talk about the harsh treatment and how they looked in the ghetto and the camps but in the memoir it does.
The author of the book Night , Elie Wiesel, explains his life, as well as his fellow Jews, as a young Jewish boy in concentration camps. The Jews who were sent to concentration camps were put under extremely harsh conditions and were treated like nothing but animals while under the control of the Germans. Wiesel illustrates a picture of these horrific events in his book NIght. He also describes the gruesome conditions the Jews were forced through while under the power of the Germans.
I remember reading the Anne Frank diary when I was in middle school, but it did not impact me as much as Eliezer Wiesel’s Night. Elie Wiesel, his father, his mother, and three sisters lived the horror of Nazi Germany. Due to the fact that the Nazis separated males and females, most of the book is based on what Elie and his father went through. The Wiesel family lived in the small town of Sighet, which belonged to Hungary. Elie’s relations with his father drastically change towards the end of the novel, but we cannot judge him because we did not experience the monstrosities him and his father endured.

Although on the broad spectrum millions have been affected by the holocaust, Elizer’s narration accounts for each of them, showing they had their own story, their own life they left behind, their own conflicts, both internally and with the Nazis. Night, by Elie Wiesel encompasses the will to survive, the witnessing of historical events, the personal accounts of those affected, and remembrance of the holocaust.
The memoir Night by Elie Wiesel gives an in depth view of Nazi Concentration Camps. Growing up in the town of Sighet, Transylvania, Wiesel, a young Jewish boy at the innocent age of 12, whose main focus in life was studying the Kabbalah and becoming closer in his relationship with God. In the memoir, Elie Wiesel reflects back to his stay within a Nazi Concentration Camp in hopes that by sharing his experiences, he could not only educate the world on the ugliness known as the Holocaust, but also to remind people that by remembering one atrocity, the next one can potentially be avoided. The two books Berlin Diaries by Marie Vassiltchikov and Survival in Auschwitz by Primo Levi both chronicle World War II from two different perspectives. They are both personal accounts from each author’s actual experiences. The two books have different formats, points, facts, and actualities. For example, Berlin Diaries is in actual diary format, and Survival in Auschwitz is in story format. I found that Berlin Diaries was harder to read because of the format, where Survival in Auschwitz was easier to follow. Also both stories were taken from two very different points of view. Marie Vassiltchikov was a Russian aristocrat that fled Russia and was seeking refuge in Germany. Primo Levi was an Italian Jew who was captured by the Nazis and taken to a concentration camp. Vassiltchikov was free, she lived a restricted life, but she still had her freedom. Levi was a prisoner; he lived a captive slave life and had no liberties or freedoms. This difference seems to be the most consequential. They led such different lives. Levi was the absolute bane of the Nazi existence, as they were to him. In contrast, Vassiltchikov actually worked for the Nazis; granted to have the freedom that she did, that’s where she had to work. But still, Vassiltchikov had freedom, how much more different could one get from being a Jewish prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp, as Levi was. There are so many points to this major
Night by Elie Wiesel is an autobiographical novel recording Mr. Wiesel’s experiences during the World War II holocaust. As a 15 year old boy Elie was torn from his home and placed in a concentration camp. He and his father were separated from his mother and his sisters. It is believed that they were put to death in the fiery pits of Auschwitz. The entire story is one of calm historical significance while there is a slight separation between the emotional trauma of what are occurring, and the often-detached voice of the author.
Some of the most fabled stories of our time come from individuals overcoming impossible odds and surviving horrific situations. This is prevalent throughout the Holocaust. People are fascinated with this event in history because the survivors had to overcome immense odds. One, of many, of the more famous stories about the Holocaust is Night by Elie Wiesel. Through this medium, Wiesel still manages to capture the horrors of the camps, despite the reader already knowing the story.
For this paper I read the novel The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards, this novel is told in the span of 25 years, it is told by two characters David and Caroline, who have different lives but are connect through one past decision. The story starts in 1964, when a blizzard happens causing the main character, Dr. David Henry to deliver his own twins. During the delivery the son named Paul is fine but the daughter named Phoebe has something wrong with her. The doctor realizes that the daughter has Down syndrome, he is shocked and age remembers his own childhood when his sister was always sick, her dyeing at an early and how that effected his mother. He didn’t want that to happen to his wife, so David told the nurse to bring Phoebe to an institution, so that his wife wouldn’t suffer. The nurse, Caroline didn’t think this was right, but brings Phoebe to the institution anyways. Once Caroline sees the institution in an awful state she leaves with the baby and
In Eliezer Wiesel’s novel “Night”, it depicts the life of a father and son going through the concentration camp of World War II. Both Eliezer and his father are taken from their home, where they would experience inhuman and harsh conditions in the camps. The harsh conditions cause Eliezer and his father’s relationship to change. During their time in the camps, Eliezer Wiesel and his father experience a reversal of their roles.
After watching the movie Schindler’s list and reading the book night you can obviously spot some of the similarities between the two of these stories. The movie Schindler’s list directed by Steven Spielberg is about a nazi named Oskar Schindler. He started making money of the jews and the war at first. Then Oskar Schindler had changed for the better to save 1,200 jews from being killed in the holocaust. The book Night written by Elie Wiesel is about his time going through the holocaust as a 15 year old jew and having his faith tested every day for about one year. Sure these two stories are completely different type of views but there are some comparison and contrast that I have found by watching Schindler’s list and reading the book
Ever wondered how life would have been during World War II. Well, Elie Wiesel was a young Jewish boy living in Transylvania, Romania. He lived with his father, mother, and 3 sisters. Throughout the book there were many relationships between father and son, some were very different from others. Almost all of them died. Night is an autobiography by a man named Eliezer Wiesel. The autobiography is a quite disturbing record of Elie’s childhood in the Nazi death camps Auschwitz and Buchenwald during world war two. While Night is Elie Wiesel’s testimony about his experiences in the Holocaust, Wiesel is not, precisely speaking, the story’s protagonist. Night is narrated by a boy named Eliezer who represents Elie, but details set apart the character Eliezer from the real life Elie. For instance, Eliezer wounds his foot in the concentration camps, while Elie actually wounded his knee. Wiesel fictionalizes seemingly unimportant details because he wants to distinguish his narrator from himself. It is almost impossibly painful for a survivor to write about his Holocaust experience, and the mechanism of a narrator allows Wiesel to distance himself somewhat from the experience, to look in from the outside.
The children during the holocaust had many struggles with their physical health. They were forced to stay in very small places and were unable to have contact with a doctor if they had gotten sick. Also they had a lack of food and some children in their host homes would get abused and mistreated. Out of all the Jewish children who had suffered because of the Nazis and their axis partners, only a small number of surviving children actually had wrote diaries and journals (“Children’s diaries”). She was born October 10, 1924 (“Children’s Diaries”). Miriam started writing her diary in October 1939, after Poland surrendered to the German forces (“Children’s Diaries”). Anne was a girl who lived with her family during the time while the Nazis took power over Germany. Because they were Jewish, Otto, Edith, Margot, and Anne Frank immigrated to Holland in 1933. Hitler invaded Holland on May 10, 1940, a month before Anne?s eleventh birthday. In July 1942, Anne's family went into hiding in the Prinsengracht building. Anne and her family called it the 'Secret Annex'. Life there was not easy at all. They had to wake up at 6:45 every morning. Nobody could go outside, nor turn on lights at night. Anne mostly spent her time reading books, writing stories, and of course, making daily entries in her diary. She only kept her diary while hiding from the Nazis. This diary told the story of the excitement and horror in this young girl's life during the Holocaust. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl reveals the life of a young innocent girl who is forced into hiding from the Nazis because of her religion, Judaism. This book is very informing and enlightening. It introduces a time period of discrimination, unfair judgment, and power-crazed individuals, and with this, it shows the effect on the defenseless.
