In this competitive world, everyone is attempting to earn more money than others and due to this race they are losing their original purpose which is to have healthy relationships with others and enjoy their life. Individuals these days very much indulge in themselves and are not spending adequate time with others. Research performed by scientists showed that isolation is one of the contributing causes of depression and other mental health disorders. People have begun to appreciate money and fame more than their own happiness which is causing their life to be empty and meaningless. In the poem “The Desert Places” by Robert Frost the narrator encounters loneliness and isolation and talks about how it’s affecting his mental well-being negatively. The poem indicates that when individuals gets isolated from others, they compromise their own happiness as they receive the ill-effects of depression and failure to communicate their emotions with others.
The main character of the poem “The Desert Places”, the speaker himself talks about his life which is purposeless and empty, the motivation behind why it’s ruining his happiness. You can recognize by the tone of the poem which is sad and miserable, that the speaker is not happy with himself and his liveliness. The speaker encounters isolation and loneliness all around the poem which is the leading cause of his sorrow. The lines from the poem, “A blanker whiteness of benighted snow, With no expression, nothing to express.” portrays about the speaker’s internal emotions which are sad and empty. The poem and my personal life experiences demonstrate that when people gets separated from the others, they trade off their own particular happiness as they accept the sick-impacts of depression and disappointment to impart their feelings because of disengagement. In the poem “The Desert Places”, the speaker experiences loneliness and depression due to his anti-social qualities and I suffered the same due to the bad relationship experience with my girlfriend. It is very important for one to spend some time with their loved ones, it won’t only benefit us, but it will likewise provide them their happiness. “To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” ― Mark Twain
