The dark days of sonny. In Sonny’s Blues, James Baldwin perfectly analyses a brothers relationship. In the story, the author dissects the brothers relationship to show struggle, change, and acceptance come alive between them. Through every stage of life, Sonny's brother always had his back. Consequently When sonny immersed himself into drugs, he flew through a world of pain, but his brother believed in him and never gave up on Sonny. Struggle was a key component in bringing the two brothers together. On Page 123, this quote is stated. “All they really knew were two darknesses, the darkness of their lives, which was now closing in on them, and the darkness of the movies,which had blinded them to that other darkness.” This quote was well thought. The statement explains that Sonny never knew anything other than the darkness in his life, and that he had no way to lead a better life. Drugs was his only way to turn, although he was still loved by his only brother. The brother did not support his choice on drugs, but his bad choice began to grow a love/hate relationship that was founded on him seeing Sonny at his worst. At first, this giant change had startled The narrator, and he wanted sonny to drop the Idea immediately, but sonny persisted and Finally, he was respected and honored for his choice.
