Due to the fact that most generations follow the class that they are born into, does not mean their “family values” are lessened of other classes. The culture of poverty holds true if people who are raised on welfare believe that it is best to remain on welfare verse seeking employment to better them and make a living to support their families.
Labor markets affect poverty levels because as there are fewer opportunities available for people to achieve jobs when the market is down, the number of Americans that are falling into poverty increase. If the labor market is stabilized affording people with adaqit income , a motivated individual that is improverished can achieve an American dream through hard work and determination and climb out of the poverty cycle and out of the poor class.

As individuals we need to come together in order to change policies, once there are more change in the policy then it’s a positive process towards changing the stratification system. As a citizen living in the United States observing society I can say I’m a victim of a stratification an educated student exploiting myself at a chance of a better lifestyle viewing myself as unworthy based on my social status. The fear of reaching that poverty line is what keeps people contributing to the economy, but the problem is the possibility that the 12th wealthiest country in the world could allow a percentage of 15.5 million children to live in poverty. Not making a point to create valuable systems that helps the less fortunate while giving them the environment to grow successful without facing impossible borders to reach their goals.
Basic education is mandatory for all kids in the United States. There are laws with minimum and maximum age limits for required free education, but this does not make all education equal. The minimum age varies from four to five to begin kindergarten, while most students graduate high school by age of eighteen or nineteen. However, there are kids that begin their education much earlier. In the article Paul Groski tells about a high school teacher struggling to connect with her low-income students. The teacher Janet loves her kids but assumes they are just lazy. By assuming this she is agreeing that poor kids have a certain culture about them. Many others also think the same, that poor people have a certain culture to them. The fact is that students living in poverty do not have the same benefits as a wealthier family. Facts show that most kids in low-income houses have at least one parent who is employed and works full time year round. Having jobs that do not pay as much makes it hard to support a family working part time. That is why a wealthier family works fewer hours than the average poor family. Many teacher’s like Janet also believe the parents of the less wealthy kids are uninvolved are unmotivated to help their kids. Poverty is more functional to the affluent members of society because they are the ones who benefit greatly from others living in poverty. In my opinion, there are a great number of people who are a part of the affluent society that lack compassion for others. This in turn results in them having more financial gains and people on the other end of the spectrum falling deeper and deeper below the poverty line. Members of the affluent society has also been known to utilize the impoverished to do the “dirty work,” which are strenuous low paying jobs that sometimes require an excessive amount of hours. Working these types of jobs, are not very beneficial to those living in poverty because of the downfalls they may cause on their households. Due to the amounts of hours that may be required, the impoverished often faces risks of losing their subsidies.

Living in the United States most people rely on the government to construct our society to better the people. The gap between rich and poor in our society significantly varies. In America, the government offers special programs to help those who fall below the poverty line. This is well known as welfare. The word welfare comes from a positive definition known as “well-being”, but most Americans would debate that welfare has become a disaster to our society as they increased welfare dependency, illegitimate babies, and family break-ups. Many people do not realize that there are tens of millions of people in America who are living in poverty because they are stuck on the fact that America is one of the richest nations. People who are living in poverty barely have enough money to survive on basic necessities like food, shelter and electricity. They often have a hectic schedule filled with work, school, or other activities that they have to do in order for them to live a somewhat stable life. Unfortunately, there are others who are living in poverty that may be ill or disabled and barely able to survive even if they are receiving money to help with their situation.
