The Crucible by Arthur Miller is based on the Salem Witch trials in 1692. In Salem the rules are very strict. They believe heavily in religion. The bible is the law and if you break the law you are probably doing deals with the devil. The book starts off with accusations of witchcraft by a group of girls, caught dancing in the wood in the late hours of the night. In Salem dancing is forbidden and since they did not want to get in trouble each of the girls accuse others for being seen with the devil. Nobody knows that they are lying besides a few people; and to prove the girls are lying, John Proctor tells his own side of the story and sacrifices what he has to protect other people. John Proctor is a hero in my eyes. He does some bad things throughout the story but he does make up for his actions and tries to bring people to justice. John Proctor is a citizen of Salem. He is a farmer that does make mistakes. He has an affair with Abigail. This situation could possibly lead to a downfall. Abigail thinks that after this affair it is true love and John and she will be in love forever. S...
