The Causes of the American Civil War
The Civil War (April 12, 1861- May 9, 1865) was a severe conflict that took the
American nation through one of its darkest periods. Instead of remaining "one nation under
God," America completely forgot what its heart stood for. The argument centered on where the ultimate status of sovereignty lay-whether with the Union or the individual states. America became a nation under hate and blood as brother against brother fought for what he believed and to settle the causes of the war. The three main causes of the American Civil War were slavery, states' rights, and Southern secession.
In early years before the Civil War, slavery divided the country, Slave ownership was highly demanded among plantation workers.
