Imagine four years of justing trying to capture the other teams trench, how dreadfully boring. World war one a great war of powers, invoked first by serbia’s overwhelming feeling to be their own people separate from Austria-hungary which thus lead to the assassination of the archduke Ferdinand of the Austrian-hungarian empire, which then lead to all the countries allied with Austria-hungary to support Austria in it’s attack on serbia, then all the countries allied with serbia to bring up arms on Austria, and Austria’s allies. This in terms of alliances had come upon through imperialism that lead to germany already against Austria in terms of expansion. This was the driving competition between all the European countries before the breakout of World War one. This like any sport between teams had built rivalries between them. Russia had still been upset with Austria-Hungary because when Serbia and many other northern parts of the ottoman empire that got separated from the ottoman empire got divided to many countries, but Serbia along with few other small state countries went to the Austria-Hungary empire instead of to Russia. Then there was the rivalry that had been sparked by France and Britain with Germany due to the imperialization of Africa and that Germany had entered late into the race for land to imperialize. Due to all the rivalries made from the race to imperialize, countries like Germany, and Russia would jump at the chance to get revenge on the other country that had taken the land they had so wanted for their own imperialistic reasons. Thats why when Serbia went to war with Austria-Hungary Russia was so eager to get revenge on Austria-Hungary. Then when Russia and it’s allies joined in. Germany couldn’t help but want to get their own revenge on France and Britain that had joined in due to the alliance they had with
