The new Christian movie "Captive" is coming to theaters on September 18, and is a testimony of a drug-addict Ashley Smith, whose life changes in a seven-hour ordeal with her kidnapper Brian Nichols.
In 2005, Brian Nicolas was on run after murdering four people when he takes Smith hostage at her home, where she reads the Rick Warren book, "Purpose Driven Life" to him. The encounter not only softens Nicholas' heart, but also changes her forever.
The movie is based on a novel by Smith, "Unlikely Angel: The Untold Story of the Atlanta Hostage Hero," where Smith is being played by Kate Mara, while David Oyelowo is casted as Nicholas.

Smith told the Baptist Press, "And I really honestly believe that if I would have [chosen] to do the drugs that night that I would have died, whether it be by the hands of Brian Nichols or somebody else. But I looked at Brian Nichols and I said I don't want to use that now and I never want to use it again, whether I've got five years to live or I've got 50 years to live, and by the grace of God I have not [used it again]."
Nichols asked her to read from the Purpose Driven Life, and she took out chapter 32 'You're Shaped to Serve God.' Reading from the chapter apparently had effect on both her and Nichols.

The movie Doubt is set in a private Catholic School in 1960s. Sister Aloysius is the principal of the school, and Father Flynn is the clergyman in the church. While the movie deals with some moral dilemmas such as doubt versus certainty, rigidity versus openness and so on, the central theme of the story pivots on accusation on Father Flynn of child molestation. The story has a hanging ending where Father Flynn is proven neither guilty nor proven innocent. Based on the contents of the movie and my own analysis, I believe that certainty plays a bigger role in accusations and I believe that Father Flynn had been falsely blamed and I am also against the rigidity of the society.

John Demos argues many points throughout the book and makes several contradictions to topics discussed previously in the work. John Demos also uses several major themes in the book, suck as captivity, kinship, negotiation, trade, regional and national development, and international relations. Each one of these themes, in my opinion, are what separate the book into its major sections.

In Zimbardo’s experiment, he had his subjects adopt roles as either prisoners or prison guards and set up a mock prison in the basement of Jordan Hall, Stanford’s psychology building. In psychology, a role is a set of expectations concerning the ways in which people are supposed to behave in certain situations. Generally, the prison guards were psychologically abusive to the prisoners, making prisoners endlessly repeat menial tasks and attempted to make them turn against each other. We have been taught that we should always follow our priorities, whether it is dealing with jobs, families, education, or faith. Ethical egoism teaches us that if our interests are any one these or something else, we should put it first because these are our values. But how far should we go in protecting our values? Is there a limit of how they should be protected? Am I doing what’s best for my priorities or for me? Although we should protect our values, there needs to be a limit and a focus of how I should protect my values with the best intentions. The film, Prisoners, presents this moral dilemma of torture through the characters’ decisions and emotions.
Russell Crowe won the 2000 Best Actor Oscar for Gladiator, and in this movie, he doesn’t give anything less of a great performance. Crowe successfully buries his personality beneath Nash's, allowing the character to come alive and for the audience to see inside his mind. And, when it comes to the sequences showing Nash battling his demons, Crowe's performance is convincing. At the same time, Jennifer Connelly is wonderful as Alicia. She does well depicting a woman torn by love for and fear of the same man.
