The Day Guernica was Bombed
The Day Guernica was Bombed was a book written by William L Smallwood (Egurtxiki). It is a story told and by witnesses and survivors of the day Guernica was bombed. The result of the bombing has caused a widespread destruction and killed many civilians. It was done during the Spanish Civil War by planes of the German Luftwaffe and the Italian Fascist on 26 April 1937.
Guernica is a Basque town is best known for its disaster that happened on April 26, 1937 Bombing of Guernica. It was also one of the first aerial bombings by the Nazi Germany’s Luftwaffe. This Basque town also had inspired the painter Pablo Picasso with his inspired painting Guernica. The traditional Spanish way had spelled it Guernica, but most Basques dislike it and that Franco is gone, the Basques prefer Gernika. They actually changed it back to its original name. The author did apologize for spilling it wrong but it was also written that way with Picasso’s world famous painting Guernica that inspired many others.
On April 26, 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, Guernica was the scene of the bombing of Guernica by the Condor Legion of the Nazi Germany’s Nazi Germany's Luftwaffe. The Luftwaffe was the aerial warfare branch of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. They grew to become one of the strongest in the world when World War II started in Europe. The Luftwaffe's Condor Legion that was sent by Hitler experimented with new doctrine and aircraft during the Spanish Civil War. It helped the Falange under Francisco Franco to defeat the Republican forces. One of the operations was the bombing of Guernica in the Basque Country. This book did tell the story of the Guernica bombing. The author was very well introduced and a great job on gathering information. This guy was just interested into the Basque language that lead him to investigate about that sad event. He did interview survivors from that tragic day it reached around a hundred interviewers who were willing to tell their story and share it with others.
In conclusion, the bombing of Guernica of April 26, 1937 attack that killed around one thousand civilians and more during the Spanish Civil War. This caused a huge disaster for a small town in Basque including victims who have died during that day. This Book does inspire some others and take a look on some of the Basque great history.
