The Blame One day there were two guys named Billy and John hanging out at a park. They were talking about how long they were friends. They both live in Lexington, Kentucky. The have been good friends since the 4th grade. They have lived together for a couple of years. Both of their parents got into an accident. They went to the store to go buy some fruit for there grandma. They are very poor. Billy and John got to the store. They were walking and walking down each aisle. Then they found the right one for their needs. Billy just realized they don’t have any money they forgot the money and home. She layed down to take a nap. John ran out of the house and looked for some money to bail Billy out. Billy was so mad at John he did not want to talk to him again. John went to the police station with the fruit. He told the cops what happened. The cops took Billy out and put John in jail. Billy was proud of him but sad he was in jail. Billy told his grandma what really happened she was mad at John. Billy and her had to find a way to get John out of jail. They went and sent letters to John he was in jail for one week now. They go and talk to him every other day. John has had some rough days at jail but he is getting through the days and days of being at jail. Billy and his grandma are very poor and have no money to bail John out of jail. So it hit them a great idea. They had a plan to bail John out of jail. It was a fundraiser. They were going to sell all different types of bread. They walked and walked all around the neighborhood. They had so many people buy bread. The bread was 5 dollars a loaf. They had raised enough money to bail out John. They both went to the police station. They talked to them. So they went to court. They had a case and the bailed John out of jail. With the extra money they bought food so they never stole or blame anybody

Above Chrystie Street on the east side, a strange bird stalks the children of the playground. Although people say it’s a stork, locals call it a vulture. In this case, Liz is the carcass that the vulture sets its eyes on.

Once they paid for the necessities they were back on the road. Bill realize he didn’t pay for the can of tuna and notice a sheriff car following them. The lights went off and the sheriff pulled them over. They were taking to the station for questioning of a murder. The whole time while being questioned, they both thought they were be accused of shoplifting. Once they realized what was happening, that’s when Bill’s cousin came to defend them.
He arrived with the mexicans however, he did not leave with them as he was offered a full time job for the rest of the summer. He accepted the job mainly because he could not stop thinking about the farmer's daughter, Lynette. It was then that he had a steady job and fell in love for the first time. This is where he worked from sun up to sun down.. This went on for weeks. Alice, Bill’s wife would always bring him food and Bill would always pick him up. Until one night, Alice came and got the boy. She told him that Bill was in town and would be home later, however, Alice work the boy up at two in the morning and sent him to town to retrieve her husband. The boy found him in the bar in a huge poker game with lots of money. A huge fight broke out and the boy was told to grab the money off the bar and when the fight finished outside they left. Bill gave the boy almost two hundred dollars of the money. The next night there a sheriff’s car in the driveway. The sheriff was there looking for the boy. He said there was a poster of him in town. Bill told him “he busts his balls for me” that he was a good kid. Again,another life lesson, that working hard had paid off for him. The sheriff told him that if it all checked out he would bring him back. However, the Sheriff took all his money and threw him in a jail cell. It was there that he broke out and ran. He hitched a ride to Oregon. He was pissed and mad. He fell asleep in the man's car on the way to Oregon. When he awoken he was offered some coffee and doughnuts. However, before eating them a peasant came through the windshield and killed the man. The car was wrecked and the boy was scared. He got out of the car and headed down the road. He then picked up by Hazel. She took him to her farm, fed him and cleaned him up and he was grateful for that. Hazel took the boy to the county fair. Throughout this particular case the audience learns numerous details about how John 's personal life may have led him to be a killer. John was a part of a group at school known as the "freaks" who were constantly victims of the popular kids ' bullying and taunts. John was even mugged at the young age of only thirteen by some older classmates. John 's father 's response was highly negative and abusive, telling John repeatedly that he was ashamed of him and that he needed to toughen up and be a man, and bought his son illegal weapons and violent video games instead of helping his son confront his conflicts. Later in the case the jury is introduced to Leo Clayton a boy who has experienced numerous of the same traumatic events that John had been tormented with, except for the fact that Leo 's father actually listened to his sons silent cries for help and confronted Robert about John 's inappropriate behavior at school towards Leo. While this did not eliminate Leo 's problems it did open a healthy and communicative relationship between father and son and showed Leo that he was not fighting this battle alone and that he was
Up north, they had recently been run out of a town called Weed on account of Lennie. First of all, Lennie is not very smart, and becomes frightened and confused easily. Also, he enjoys petting animals and feelingthings that grab his attention. One night in Weed, Lennie and George had gone to a pool hall. Lennie saw a girl wearing a bright red dress. He grabbed on to the sleeve of her dress. The girl became scared and screamed; this frightened Lennie. He did not know what to do so he held on to the dress tighter.
On Friday April 24th J.P. Walker, Preacher Lee, Crip Reyer and L.C. Davis got into Reyer’s Oldsmobile and they took off on a mission to kill Mark Charles Parker. (3 other cars of men followed) They went to the courthouse/jail in Poplarville and they could not get in. So they went to Jewel Alford’s House (The jail keeper) to get the keys to the Jail. Alford went with the four men to the courthouse. When he got there he went in and down the hall to Sheriff Moody’s office and got the keys to the jail. He opened the door to the jail and Lee, Reyer, Davis, Walker followed Alford into the jail. Alford then opened Parkers cell and Lee and Davis pulled Parker out of the jail and courthouse to the Reyer's Oldsmobile. Alford then left and the men got into the car.
Billy is coming home from work one day when suddenly he hears some dogs up the street fighting. He goes to check it out and finds them picking on a redbone hound. He saves the dog and cares for it through the night. It reminds him of his childhood. When Billy was ten years old he lived on a farm in the Ozark Mountains of northeastern Oklahoma. He wanted two good coonhounds very badly, he called it “puppy love”, but his papa could not afford to buy him the dogs. For many months, Billy tries to content himself with some rodent traps his papa gives him, but he still wants a dog. Then one day he finds a sportsman’s catalog in an abandoned campsite. In it he sees an ad for good hounds, at $25 each. He decides he wants to save $50 and order himself two hounds. Billy works hard, selling fruit and bait to fishermen, and gathering fruit that he sells to his grandfather at his store. Finally, he saves enough money and gives it to his grandfather to order the dogs for him and asks him to keep it s secret. When a notice comes that they have arrived at the mail depot in the nearby town of Tahlequah, they decide to go into town the next week. That night Billy decides he can not wait any longer. He packs himself a little food, and heads of for town following the river through the woods. He walks all night, and finally reaches town in the morning. The people in town laugh and stare at the young hillbilly, but it does not bother Billy he is there on a mission to get his dogs. He finally collects his dogs and walks back out of town with their small heads sticking out of his bag. Some schoolchildren mob around him and knock him down, but the town sheriff rescues him. The sheriff is impressed with Billy’s determination, and says he has grit. That, night Billy camped in a cave with his two puppies. They wake up in the middle of the night to hear the call of a mountain lion. Billy builds a fire to keep them safe, while the bigger of the two dogs, the male, barks into the night air.
The next morning I woke up, washed my White gown on the washboard, and walked with John to see my sister. I talked to Lizzie for about an hour. The Jail let us take her to a park nearby and talk to her, John had went into town to run a few errands, and that when Lizzie told me everything.
The past few weeks had been hot, dry, and rainless. A drought. Rain had not fallen for three months. Though, despite the drought, the O’Leary family had been having an exceptional October. The O’Leary family consisted of Mrs. O’Leary, her husband and 5 children. Mr. O’Leary worked as a laborer, as Mrs. O’Leary kept with the cows and the children. The family was on welfare, but were livng pretty fair lives, and Mrs. O’Leary was selling fresh milk on the side. A small way to make some more money for her family.
After Junior’s sister Mary dies in a terrible fire, he feels sad and alone. At school, his fellow students and friends make him feel better by giving him hugs and small slaps on the back. “They were worried for me. They wanted to help me with my pain. I was important to them. I mattered. Wow,” (Alexie 212). Back on the Reservation, Junior never felt important, which really put a damper on his confidence. However, at school he knows people care about him and it makes him feel good and appreciated. This experience impacts Junior’s identity and makes him a better, and more confident person. Junior goes to his first school dance, and afterwards him, his girlfriend, and a few of his friends go to a Denny’s to eat pancakes. He is poor and obviously cannot pay for the food, but he orders it anyways. Later that evening, his friend Roger finds out that he does not have enough money to pay. Instead of getting mad, Roger lends him forty dollars and goes on his way. When they got back to the school after having pancakes, Penelope, Junior’s girlfriend, finds out that he is poor and kisses him on the cheek. “But then I realized she was being my friend. Being a really good friend, in fact. She was concerned” (Alexie 127). This entire event shows Junior that being poor is not a bad thing. It lets him know that people will still be his friend even when they know he is
One night Ponyboy,Johnny,and Dallas want out to the movies. Dallas was drunk and he was messing with the two ladies in front of them Cherry and Marcia. Lennie and George decided to go the pool hall one night. There was a girl there that got Lennie’s eye. She was wearing a bright red dress. It interested Lennie and he grabbed her sleeve and wouldn’t let go. The girl was full of fear because some stranger wouldn’t let go of her dress. He held it tighter and tighter and wouldn’t let go. After that night he found out that the girl was pressing charges against him. Every day the police were on the look out for Lennie. But George and Lennie escaped from the town by hiding in a ditch until nightfall. After the night of lying in a ditch Lennie and George started to hitchhike. They hitchhiked all the way to Salinas Valley, California. They got there the next day which was their destination.
The family then gathers food and the belongings they are able to take, loads them on the truck overnight, and leaves the next morning. They are faced with the struggles the moment they are ready to leave. Grandpa has to be drugged in order for them to get him into the truck. They stop at a service station and the man accuses them of wanting things for free. The family dog is killed by a car. As they move through towns they stop at night next to the Wilsons. The family begins to fall apart and Grandpa dies of a stroke. Since the family had limited money they just bury the body with the help of the Wilsons. They begin to travel with them. Their truck breaks down so the boys have to go find parts to fix it while Ma and the girls move on to a camp because grandma is starting to go crazy. The people at the camp laugh at the Joads when Pa tells them their plan. They tell him that they are fooling people, paying them low wages, and that families are starving but Pa doesn't believe it. The loads and Wilsons move on through Arizona as fast as they could because the border patrol tells them they can't stay for long. When they finally reach California they stop alongside a river at another camp. The men tell Pa again that they will suffer in California. They

After Tommy’s accident, the children decide to create their own “community” that becomes known as the “Sewer Pipe City.” During the depression, the emergence of homelessness was seen in big cities and as well as the areas outside of the cities where people created make-shift housing. Some of the kids within the community set up their own businesses. Two African American boys created “Black Jack laundry.” The boys charged pieces of food in exchange for clean laundry.
