A ban on the reading or possessing the Bible by the common people was placed from AD 500 to 1500 for about a thousand years. However, it was at the council of Valencia, the Bible was placed on “The Index of Forbidden Books.” The Catholic Church leaders had the elitist mentality that only the Catholic clergies, not the laity, were intelligent enough or had the reasonable judgement to read and interpret the Bible in a correct manner. While they placed a ban on the Bible in the pretense of holding the biblical doctrines pure and holy and preventing the spread of the contagion of heresy, the fact of the truth was that they did not want to lose the control over people. Covenant according in bible's point of view is a promise made by God to man. According to the book of Genesis, Chapter 6 Verse 13, as a result of human's disobedient and evil ways on earth, God had planned to put an end to humanity with flood. The covenants between God and Noah was established in Genesis Chapter 9 Verse 11. God promised Noah and his descendants, never again would he destroy the earth by flood of water because of the pleasant sacrifice offered to God by Noah. God also confirmed his covenant by putting up signs in the sky in the form of a rainbow. The reason Noah and his family weren’t destroyed in the flood was because Noah found grace in God's sight. What this means is that God do not establish any kind of covenant with just anyone. Clearly Abel, Noah and Abraham were unshakable, upright and obedient towards God’s command.

Uncovered were several hundred scrolls that have now become known as the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Johann Gutenberg invented the moveable type printing press and published his first bible sometime around 1450. By 1500, an estimated 20 million books were circulating throughout Europe. The Church's monopoly over the written word was destroyed. Responding to this new technology of freedom, the Church developed a number of control mechanisms. The most obvious, and perhaps famous of these was the Index librorum prohibitum (Index of Prohibited Books). The Index listed hundreds of banned authors and books.3 Less famous than the Index but absolutely central to the rise of censorship, was Church and government use of exclusive printing privileges, which granted favored printers a monopoly right to publish books so long as they were approved by official censors4. In Italy, censorship was primarily a response to the spread of printed Protestant propaganda.5
Books have been banned/censored throughout history. For example, the Catholic Church created the Index of Banned Books in the 1500s. The goal of the Index was to prevent the general population from reading books that went contrary to the Church’s teachings. Some of Galileo’s books were in this list. Anyone caught reading or selling these books was severely punished, tortured, or even killed. 500 years later, however, book banning still occurs. There are hundreds of books being challenged every year in the United States, for various reasons. Many of these reasons are understandable, such as preventing mature content (eg. profanity, violence, obscenity) from reaching young people. However, other reasons are quite irrational. For example, the Harry Potter series was removed from some school libraries because parents believed it promoted witchcraft. A single, precise reason behind book banning, however, is unclear. Furthermore, many important American classics are being banned, often for minor reasons such as profanity. Why is it that we ban books that teach valuable lessons? Is it because censors are simply trying to protect children from inappropriate content? Or are governments trying to suppress unwanted ideas? Books should not be banned because book censorship is unnecessary, limits knowledge, and violates the fundamental principles of this country.
Many different novels written in different times, can have very similar themes and ideas that have had an impact over the course of time. Knowledge can be defined by facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject (Oxford University, 2014). Throughout the novel Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury and the novel The Book Thief written by Marcus Zusak the theme of forbidden knowledge exists. The theme of forbidden knowledge is symbolized through the burning of the books done by the firefighters and the Nazi soldiers, the penalties that come with trying to obtain knowledge such as going to prison, and the idea that knowledge comes with a cost which can be as severe as death. In both of the novels the main characters Liesel Meminger in The Book Thief, and Guy Montag in Fahrenheit 451, both characters quest for knowledge ends up in flames.

First translated by Dr. Hugo Odeberg in 1928, 3 Enoch or the Hebrew Book of Enoch has rarely been touched by scholars because of the lack of background information. It is known that it was written by Ishmael ben Elisha who's work can be dated back to the second century and had a focus on the Talmud . There are certain inferences that can be made about this text. There are two other works of Enoch, The Book of Enoch (1 Enoch), and the Secret of Enoch (2 Enoch) . A majority of the Book of Enoch was written during the Maccabean revolt, but some scholars state that the latter half of the Book can be dated as early as 1st century BC. 2 Enoch, like 3 Enoch is also tough to date, but it can be dated around the end of the 1st century BC, due to the language it is written in . From the knowledge available on these texts, we are able to date when this text was written, as well as which communities used this text.
The Inquisition was originally put into effect to rid the Albigensies out of Italy or convert them to the Christian ways by way of torture. After they successfully did this it was to ban the new Converts from the country. The reason for this was the Albigensies had developed their own religion called Manichaeanism where they had two gods one evil and one good. The pope wanted to rid the holy roman empire of these Albigensies, which started the Inquisition something that would be practiced for many years to come.

During the reformation a Catechism which is a clear summary of Catholic beliefs was set out to help reform the order of Mass throughout the Catholic world which priests then helped educate and teach this understanding to Catholics. Revelation identifies itself as “both an “apocalypse”…and as prophecy”, making it distinctly different from the rest of the New Testament. “Jewish apocalyptic literature flourished in the centuries following the completion of the OT canon”, and it is scattered throughout the Old Testaments in books such as Daniel, Ezekiel, and Isaiah. Apocalyptic literature is full of “visions that dramatize the prophet’s admission to God’s heavenly council”, and convey their meaning primarily through symbolism. John brings a “balanced message of comfort, warning, and rebuke” in Revelation, testifying to the end of the world and the second coming of Jesus Christ. Apart from the OT literature, Revelation shows a distinct optimism toward the end of days, for “Christ’s death has already won the decisive victory over evil”, with the Kingdom of God already among believers. This book was written in “approximately A.D. 95 on the island of Patmos”, which is still standing to this day. It was written under the emperor Domitian, with Roman authorities exiling John “to the island of Patmos (off the coast of Asia)”. The events in Revelation are also “ordered

The creeds provided both of these, as they clearly stated what things the Catholic Church supported and instructions for its followers. These were vitally important to the success of the Church. Now, there was a set list of things that every catholic person could look to if they began to lose sight of their faith in the Catholic beliefs. They also served as an effective method of communicating the ideas of God to all cultures, allowing the word of God to be communicated to people of many different cultures and beliefs. The languages they were written in were widely spoken in that time period; therefore many could understand it without needing a translator. This allowed the Creeds to spread the word to the entire world, just as Jesus instructed the apostles to.
Morality and the Bible & nbsp; Both the legal and salvation philosophies of the Old and New Testaments reflect those of the cultures around them, due to much copying and borrowing of laws and ideas. Furthermore, all societies around the world have similar moral and legal codes -- which is certainly not an accident. & nbsp; Interestingly enough, the moral codes of the world's religions bear a striking resemblance to each other, with only minor variations. Religions as different as Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism all have proscriptions against killing, lying, cheating, stealing, etc. This is not an accident, for reasons we shall explore below. & nbsp; Christians may then object that there is something unique about the Bible that makes it a superior moral code.
