Why “Race” is wrong
History has record of showing that popular belief is one of the most dominating factors to what many people believe to be true, but, when introduced new evidence over time, the world can evolve to better understand the facts that research and studies show. In 300 BC people hypnotized that the world was round and in the 1600’s people believed the sun revolved around the earth. Thanks to scientists Galileo and Eratosthenes, people now know that their assumptions were incorrect and accept the scientific definitions. In 2017 so much has evolved and new theories emerge every day to redefine what new evidence has disproved, one theoretical term being revised is race. By creating separation between whites, blacks, and native Americans, these early colonists were able to keep Africans oppressed and under their control in the 18th century. To make these laws seem just, colonists would dehumanize Africans as savages and declare that African’s brain sizes were smaller, publish articles that “confirmed” these findings to give the African American communities a name as an inferior race, and make these differences widely accepted to allow early colonists to keep slaves as property. Today the aftermath of slavery can be seen in the government and political systems heavily. In the recent shootings against minority groups, the Washington post kept record of the number of people fatally shot by police in 2015 where black men made up 6% of the U.S population yet accounted for 40% of the unarmed shootings. 3 in 5 of black and Hispanic people were killed for less threatening behaviors than those of whites by the police. It is this racial discrimination that urges the revision of such a derogatory definition. Races dictates where people work, how people interact with one another, and several other factors. Race is a social invention to keep people in places of power and others impoverished.
