As well as succeeding and excelling in life and making the future generations lives better than the current one. This concept has contributed much of the immigration from as early as 1931 to present day. However, many immigrants immigrate to the United States in order to escape oppression as well as uprising and turmoil which may reside in their home country. Though society often places people none the less immigrants into categories from social class, heritage, and prejudice they share a common thread of hope as well as facing obstacles in their journeys and once they arrive to the states. An example of this common thread of escaping their homeland in order to pursue new experiences and hopeful new life yet experiencing different hardships are shown when looking at both the Mexicans and the Irish.

Police behavior is different across all communities. In fact, how police react to combat crime is affected by the management style of the various police administrators. Also, local politics will have a strong influence on how police react to crime. When police respond to a call, they will make a determination of the “cost and benefits” of their reaction. The term has been used differently in today’s society and recalls it as maturing, getting married with the love of your life, having a beautiful home, and positioning in a good paying job to provide for your kids. Others say that the dream is to have a better life and do what you love. Either way, it all boggles down to just being happy. The “American Dream” became widely popular in the United States as Adam published his book during the 1930s and has been used in speeches, memoirs, and literature (Fallon). This term became important to the people in the U.S. because it sets a goal for all of the citizens to work hard for their dreams and happiness. The police protocol on force, using the force continuum, is not a bad thing itself; however, with misguided views and misunderstanding it can be applied in a bad way. The force continuum serves as a guidance tool for officers to follow in order to properly uphold their duties. Each individual department has the ability to implement the use of a force continuum that goes along the lines of the Constitution in order to educate officers on what amount of force they can or cannot use. This in theory is a perfect way for officers to implement justice without infringing on any American citizens’ personal rights. This would have a positive effect on society and allow the law to be enforced with limited debate amongst the public. Officers often misinterpret or just do not understand how this continuum is supposed to work. Consequently, people are put at risk because of a lack of knowledge and training. It allows any one that has an aspiration, a desire, a yearning, to carry out the individual dream. It knows no bounds of race, creed, gender or religion. It stands for something great, something that every one can strive towards. A dream can be a desire for something great. In America, the American Dream allows dreams to become realities. According to Webster's New World Dictionary, the American Dream is defined as "An American social ideal that' stresses egalitarianism and especially material prosperity". To live this dream is to succeed. It allows anyone, rich or poor to have the opportunity to succeed. It is the ability to come from nothing and become so me thing. To succeed at any thing you do, you must have patience and persistence. It requires hard work, persistence and a desire for something better. The main focus of Sparta was their military. They became a military state to ensure control over their conquered helots. From the first day a Spartan child was born he or she was examined to make sure that they were healthy. It was important for the boys to be healthy so that they could grow to be strong healthy soldiers, and for all to be healthy citizens. When the Spartan boys reached the age of seven they were taken and taught to read, write, and to be disciplined. They did not come out of the military until they were 60. Athens did not focus on their military as heavily as Sparta did, but they did have an army of hoplites. They paid for their military service, and the military was open to every class. They fought only when it was necessary and died for the city, as it was the duty of all the citizens to protect their city-state.
