We were in search of a better life in this newly discovered land of America. We sought freedom, and opportunity. We are the foundation of this new land. We are the future. Britain, the mother country, view us as a political and economic advancement. The King has viewed us as weak, and took advantage of our loyalty. He does not respect us. He does not have our best interests at heart. Britain abuses us. Britain has suppressed us for too long. We are not inferior to their power. We must take a stand against the kind and stand up for ourselves. We are not cowards. We are strong and capable of more than we have been given. It is not our duty to support the lavish lifestyle of the king. The purpose of our lives is not to please others. We cannot be forced to give up all our bearings. We work hard to provide for the ones we love, not the strangers oversee. They are not burdened by heavy taxes, and, why should we? Through the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, and other taxes, the British tried to collect taxes. 1764 Sugar Act put a three-cent tax on foreign refined sugar and increased taxes on coffee, indigo, and certain kinds of wine. It banned importation of rum and French wines. We must be vocal about this mistreatment and injustice. Besides, the taxes were enacted (or raised) without the consent of the colonists. 1773 Tea Act that gave a monopoly on tea sales to the East India Company. In other words, American colonists could buy no tea unless it came from that company. Why? Well, the East Indian Company wasn't doing so well, and the British wanted to give it some more business.
