In the article “The Amazing Powers Of Jen Bricker” by Kristen Lewis, and the poem “Can’t” by Edgar Albert Guest, both show to us what Helen Keller is talking about in her quote “Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.” In the article it gives us many pieces of evidence, but the best piece in my opinion is when Jen’s family always encouraged her to put her mind to, and stick with it. “But Jen says she’s fortunate. Growing up, she felt she could do anything she put her mind to-whether it was playing on the volleyball team or stealing the ball on the basketball court. Jen’s positive outlook was instilled in her from a young age. ‘Can’t’ was never part of her vocabulary. In the bricker house, the word was simply not allowed.
She is encouraging his to do more that what he thinks he is capable of and to dream big. People will try to belittle and discourage him but he should stay committed and confident because he has great potential. I like this quote because I can resonate to having a person always trying to motivate me. My mom is constantly encouraging me and trying to instill confidence in me. This quote later becomes important when Werner decides to go to the elite school rather than becoming the predicted worker in the mines.
A picture tells a thousand words, and "Eleanor" by Eric Drooker says volumes. At first glance, it is a seemingly normal neighborhood, in any city in the world. We see an old woman, at the end of her life, living a meager existence and instantly you conclude that she is lonely and friendless. That is not the picture I choose to see. People assume that once a person becomes older that their life has little meaning or happiness. I see a woman who has everything she wants and needs. Seelig then highlights each skill in turn and includes projects for the reader to do in order to enhance that particular skill. The human form transcends throughout time persistently present in art. Dating all the way back to Paleolithic human beings our renderings of idealized forms have served many purposes. Though the Neolithic and Paleolithic purpose of these renderings is widely speculative the range of reason for these depictions ranges from idolization and worship to assertion of aristocratic and economic status even to simply serving as statements of self-expression. Amongst ruins and artifacts, sculptures of ancient cultures demonstrate the ways in which humans perceptions of what is aesthetically desirable have progressed. Two idealized sculptures the Woman from Willendorf and the Khafre statue with approximately 21,500 years separating their individual gestations this demonstrate the stylistic progression of idealized imagery through time.

Tannen breaks these down into seven different categories; apologies, criticism, thank-yous, fighting, praise, complaints, and jokes. The different style of communication can cause some problems at the workplace and even affect the environment. Keller uses evidence, such as facts and examples, to support claims. She also uses reasoning to develop ideas and to connect claims and evidence. Moreover, stylistic and persuasive elements, such as diction, and appeals to the emotion, such as pathos, ethos, and logos, are used to help add power to the ideas expressed.
