Ancient Egypt was a civilization because it showed the 7 Indicators of Civilization. 5 of them that I chose to research are an organized government, complex religion, social classes, record keeping, and long-distance trade. These indicators, in my opinion, are the building blocks for a civilized society. From my research, we see the Egyptians were fair about their laws because they decided to mention women, children, and slaves in their laws. According to my source Tour of Egypt, “Records indicate that females enjoyed considerable rights under the law…. Eternal Egypt tells us “They exported stone and pottery vases, linen, papyrus, gold vessels, ox hides, ropes, lentils, and dried fish. Nubia, was rich in gold and mineral deposits, building stone, ebony, ivory, ostrich feathers, and eggs, as well as livestock and cattle. Caravan trade routes were an important means of exchanging these goods.” There were two parts of Egypt, lower and upper. When you look at it on a map it would be confusing because Lower Egypt is on top of Upper Egypt and that is only because the Nile flows north to south and is one of the only rivers that do that. The Pharaoh is at the top of the social class chain and then the vizier. The vizier is the Pharaoh's assistant and advisor, The vizier works with the Pharaoh, and the law says that the vizier shouldn’t get a big head about his position or else he would be demoted. Then the high priests, royal overseers, then to the bottom is scribes, artisans, farmers, laborers, and last slaves. Slaves are at the bottom because they were either captured in war or couldn't pay their debts and had to work the pay it off. Slaves were the worst to be in the social class ranking because you had to work in the sun all day. Ancient Egypt was indeed a civilization because it had all the aspects of a civilization.
