Era of Nightmares
Have you ever had a nightmare? Well the years 1914-1945 was an American dream gone bad and they couldn't wake up from the nightmare of modern war. 77 million people died from war and there was an economic and moral crash. At the beginning of the 20th century (1914-1945) the United States came out of isolation and fought in two world wars, and went into a era of prosperity just to crash into a great depression. The roaring twenties was a decade of prosperity and wealth. Following the amazing 20s was the miserable 30’s were people were poor and a quarter of the people were jobless. Douglas MacArthur was born on January 26, 1880 in a military camp in Arkansas. He graduated West Point in 1903 with honors. After he was commissioned as a junior officer in the Army Corps of Engineers where he spent his time getting promotions and moving around the world including the Philippines, Japan, Mexico At the start of WWI France. (“Douglas MacArthur”... 1 ) when the United States entered the war on the side of the entente, Macarthur was colonel and set to lead the rainbow division (1). In 1918 he participated in the St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, Sedan offensives (1). When the war concluded in 1918 he became the superintendent of West Point (2). In 1930 he was promoted to a General (2). During WWII he commanded the troops in the pacific, then occupied Japan after the war (2). He was also in the Korean War. World War One was between the Entente, including Britain, France, Italy, and Russia. Later the United States and the Central Powers, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire. This massive war was fought between 1914-1918, and was full of modern inventions like: the first tank, flamethrowers, gas, airplanes, submarines and strategic bombing this is modern war America was in World War One In 1917 due to Germany restarting unrestricted submarine warfare and giving Mexico the Zimmermann telegram. If the Zimmermann telegram would have gotten to mexico and they agreed to it, Mexico would have joined the central powers to invade the United States (“over there”). As a result of that they would annex Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona (1). The Germans launched a massive spring offensive with all the freed up troops from the eastern front (”america in world war I 1”). Since America joined the war the allies were saved from utter destruction at the hands of the German army (“Over There” 2).
