There are many reasons people in our world swear. They swear to express their feelings, to motivate others, etc. Even though swearing is prohibited in school, teens still swear and there is no way to stop this from happening. Teachers have heard teens swear in school, but cannot do anything about it. Students walking in hallways swearing in every conversation, many people think this is outrageous, but students believe that it is embedded in their vocabulary, and is really casual to them, also none of the students take swearing offensively when spoken by their fellow classmates, students also believe that when coaches and teachers curse they are trying to motivate them to be better, students also curse/swear to get along with popular crowd.

The media has shed a light on Tourette's, but maybe not the correct light. While Tourette’s is displayed as playful or inappropriate, it’s far from a laughing matter.

Profanity is often thrown around like it is nothing, but it can ruin a lot of things for people who use it on a regular basis. Christians are an example of people who do not like profanity. It is a sin to curse and Christians take profanity seriously. So many people use profanity so much that they do not even realize that they are using it. Some people think that it is “cool” to cuss and use foul language, those people throw bad words around like it is nothing. The lesson that profanity teaches is that using bad language can make people frown upon you and will not get you far in
After reading the story 'The Power of Profanity' by Scott Weaver my view on profanity and its use of vulgarity has changed dramatically. It wasn't till I was about 18 years of age that I started speaking with profanity. And even after using cuss words such as the B word I would constantly regret my use of language always thought that these words should be absent in my use of language. It was ingrained in me by my mother just like Scott Weaver what's top by her grandmother that "Only stupid people cuss. It's because they can't think of any way else to say what they want to say."

When a person swears or curses it effects the way people view them. You may admire a person and think that they are intelligent and can articulate their feelings, but in the moment where they may use foul language, the view of the swear-er may change drastically. Or when trying to impress a date or someone you may be interested in, cursing could ruin the opportunity for that relationship to blossom into something more. More often than not, when someone will swear it will only put off the others. The way to mend this problem is to consciously evaluate yourself to make sure that you don’t swear. At first it may be very difficult, swearing becomes something of a habit and to reverse it will take more than sheer will-power. Positive reinforcements from parents or someone of authority will help more than anyone can know. Kathryn Hatter, journalist for the Global Post states, “The beauty of positive reinforcement is that it teaches and motivates specific behaviors by using items or activities that appeal to your teenager, states Shannon Baranski, psychology professor with the Houston Community College. How does dropping out of high school affects students’ lives in the future? Students’ dropping out has become a crisis, President Obama said, “It’s time for all of us to come together parents and students, principals, and teachers, business leaders and elected officials to end America’s dropout crisis” (“ President Obama”). There are 7 thousand students’ that drop out of high school that adds up to about 1.2 million each year, wouldn’t it be nice to drop that number and help kids stay in school instead of dropping out of high school(“ President Obama”). Students’ shouldn’t drop out of high school because they couldn’t go to college, couldn’t hold down a job, and would struggle making minimum wage for the rest of their life.

Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school's most easily accessible phone was on the other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the use of cellular devices in educational facilities. I believe that cell phone use is of extreme convenience, and has academically beneficial aspects, among it's so called "faults".
How many of you know what social media is? I bet I’ll get “duh” looks by saying this because majority of the people know what social media is. How many of you have at least 3 social media accounts? Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
