There are at least 30% of teen mothers in the U.S and whether or not you support their decisions they are normal people just like us,and they go through things everyday. They face difficult tasks , just like regular teenagers. teen mothers do go through challenges, such as health concerns, their education, and economical issues. Before these teens were mothers, they didn’t really pay attention to this stuff, but now it’s magnified. This makes life just a little bit harder.
Health Concerns are big issue that teen mothers face everyday. One really intense health concern that teen mothers have to face are premature births. A premature birth is basically a baby who is born too early. Smoking: Any kind of tobacco use increases a mom's risk of PPROM and preterm labor. Nicotine causes blood vessels in the uterus to constrict, which can prevent nutrients and oxygen from getting to the baby or contribute to early labor. Stress: Chronic, high-level psychological stress can cause labor to start early.(Bird, Cheryl, and Joel Forman.)
This affects teen moms because “ 21% are more likely to have a premature baby, rising to 93% for their second baby.”(Wilkinson) But not only that, I previously stated that smoking can cause a person to have a premature birth and it appears that “Nearly 90 percent of adult smokers began smoking before age 18 and 11 percent of high school seniors reported smoking in the last month.”(Adolescents and Tobacco: Trends) So this means that if they’re a teen that is pregnant, has a lot of stress, And on top of that
