Today, educators, students and schools are becoming more technological each year. Therefore, teachers need to identify and educate 21st century learner with skills they need in the 21st century. Also, teachers need to address educational technology issues and trends, such as social issues, which could be presented in their classroom and school. In addition, teachers are addressing the CCSS, ISTE, P21, and ICT standards by attending workshops and completing tutorials in order to become proficient and meet the standard. On the other hand, technological issues shape the way technology is used in today’s classroom. The use of technology in today’s classroom is limited and restricted due to fears of misuse. Sometimes, when a teacher incorporates technology in the classroom there is always a student that misuses it. For instance, a teacher may assign the student to research a topic but instead the student decides to play games and watch movies, thus incorporating too much technology in a classroom can also become an issue because it can easily distract students. Technology has shaped America in many ways from developing complex computer systems available to the everyday people to being able to track weather patterns across the world. Without technology, we certainly would not be where we are today as a high tech society. A lot of this technology came from World War II. During World War II, the atomic bomb prevailed making it the most high tech weapon in history. Radar equipment was also produced, as well as medicines to prevent diseases, nutrition research, high horsepower jet engines to power aircraft, and the V-1 and V-2 rockets. Through all of this technology, World War II was known as the first high technology war.
It is no more pertinent than today to acknowledge that students live in a technology driven world where information and communication technologies are integrated into everyday situations (QSA, 2007). Prensky, 2001 suggests that it is now clear that as a result of the abundant technological environment and students’ substantial level of interaction with it, that today’s students think and process information fundamentally differently from their predecessors. With this in mind, it is crucial that as a future educator, I bring to the classroom new and innovative ways of teaching and learning in order to motivate and interest these ‘digital natives’ (Halat, 2008).
Almost everyone attends a school at one time in their life whether the classroom includes technology or not. Research shows that technology isn’t used as often as one might think. The article, “High Access and Low use of technology in High School Classrooms” illustrates the use of technology by stating that only one in ten of elementary and middle school teachers are daily users of computers (Cuban, Kirkpatrick, Peck). Most schools now have classrooms that use technology throughout the entire class time and even at home to do homework. Although some people might agree with the use of technology in class, it is more harmful to the students than useful. In the past, technology was something that was only used in our homes and by the wealthy. However, this has become a thing of the past. Classrooms have become more interactive and lessons seem to be more engaging. Students have been given the opportunity to use Smart Boards, document cameras, projectors, and wireless slates. In order for our students to feel comfortable, when using the different technologies, they must have some amount of background knowledge. If a student is not given this background knowledge, they will have more difficulty utilizing the technology than someone who has the background knowledge. Teachers in classrooms today must also have some type of knowledge of the technology being used. A great way to build this knowledge is to attend training sessions that your district may be holding, and utilize the technology as much as possible.

Vision Statement: My vision is to ensure that every student gains the acceptable knowledge to understand and learn the concepts of what education has to offer. Within this context I perceive integrating technology as a tool that will expand learning abilities. Therefore, my vision is to provide instructional technology skills into the curriculum. As a follower of the 21st Century Framework I will set into the standards of education the 21st Century themes, the mastery of core subjects, learning and innovation skills, information media and technology skills along with life and career skills to ensure that every student masters these skills. Stimulating an academic environment that is dedicated to support and enhance student’s commitment to today’s digital world will promote success.
