We live in a diverse world. We see different cultures and sub-cultures surfacing within our cities. Our country was built on diversity. Tattoos are considered a bad taboo in today’s society. People are stereotyped and discriminated due to their body art. Although some may object to tattoos in the workplace, I would answer society needs to understand it is not new. The history of tattoos can be traced as far back as the Neolithic Age. It has been accepted and adopted by many centuries and cultures. Its practice has been used through religion, status and even during enslavement. Recent statistics show that one out five adults have some kind of tattoo on their body. Today’s job market that is tight and companies are more adaptable and usually don’t worry about tattoos but rather looking for the right candidate who has the qualifications for the job. Companies are more accepting in some workplaces. They are accepted but in many professional fields they are not allowed. They are found to be usually covered up so that it is accepted. In most cases, people get a tattoo that represents something meaningful in their life; whether that is a poem they enjoy, religion, someone they love, etc. A company should look at how a person works, not what is on their …show more content…

Take for instance the military, it was never accepted before. According to Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno, the U.S. military needs to change alongside society. The Army policy changed to say that they no longer have limits on the size or number of tattoos on soldier’s arms and legs. There was a limit of only 4 tattoos below the knee and not bigger than the soldiers hand. Some policy still stays in effect like face and neck tattoo not authorized and against regulation also derogatory and sexist
