The stories Voltair’s “Tartuffe” and Moliere’s “Candide” both have many similarities in their characters and themes. Tartuffe and Candide are both stories that are comedies attacking the values of their society. Each story expresses a sense of irony just represented and expressed in different ways. The two characters I chose to compare are Orgon and Candide. Both of these characters are similar because they are immature, stubborn, childish, gullible and they trust people around them that they don’t know very well.
Candide is a good-hearted but hopelessly naïve young man in Moliere’s Candide. After being banished he travels around meeting many different people while he is following the women he loves. Orgon believes Tartuffe is this excellent
