“Get the look, which gets the look”. Tanning commercials grab people by the head by talking about looks. Most everyone in the world wants to have a look that attracts other good looking people. They want to be in the modern group of good looking people. People want to fit in, so they change their looks and habits to become the cool people. However, unnatural tanning has consequences that come with the deal of good looks. Some scientists and doctors say that tanning beds increases the chance of getting skin cancer. Others disagree and say tanning is healthy. Recent studies show that tanning indoors increases the production of melanin, the body’s own sunscreen, and creates too many cells which makes tanning increase the chance of bad behavior, body injuries, or different kinds of skin cancer. …show more content…

From the studies of Gery P. Guy Jr. of the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), teens who did indoor tanning engaged with risky behavior like smoking, drinking, or unsafe sex. Data from the years 2009 to 2011 show that “25,861 high school students answered to a question that they have tanned and they did risky health behaviors.” What could have caused so many teens to tan and do risky behaviors? In an AAD (American Academy of Dermatology) survey, “almost 80 percent of the high school students surveyed said they looked better with a tan and others liked it.” This shows that high school students are tanning because of the influence of their social life. When one high school student does something, then others do it to fit in. This must also explain why young adults engage in risky behavior. The young adults who tan tend to be motivated to do things that would make them look cool or make their body look great. Tanning indoors has a major impact on behavior, because young adults want to fit into the modern society, but it also effects the body of a tanner
