Nutritional Symbiosis
The technical definition of nutritional symbiosis is “the relationship between two or more organisms in which they share their shelter and nutrients.” There are three different kinds of symbiotic relationships, parasitism, mutualism, and commensalism. Although in some cases, not everyone is benefited by these relationships (depending on the type of symbiosis that is occurring) symbiotic relationships are a way organisms have truly learned to survive, reproduce, grow and benefit from what others have to offer. There are many different relationships between many different kinds of animals that fall under these categories but for this essay I am going to compare the relationship between a tick and a dog and the relationship between a butterfly and a flower (parasitic and mutualistic relationships).

In the first chapter, Man the Hunter, William H. McNeill talks about the relationships between populations and parasites. He first talks about how there is a balanced relationship between the population and parasites. A balanced relationship is a relationship where the parasite lives off of the host or inside of the host. An example of a parasite and a host might be tapeworms inside of the human body and getting into your digestive tract. McNeill says that different people react differently to different parasites. Some people may resist the parasite and other people can be devastated by these parasites. While I was reading the novel Beloved, I noticed several testimonies throughout the book, one of them being equality. The novel tells a tragic story about slavery and it is often pointed out that the color of one’s skin determines how he or she will be treated throughout life. The slaves in the book are in constant battle to survive among the white men; however, survival is not always the best things for the slaves.
Trying to define codependency can be very difficult. It is not an exact or definitive state; rather, it's more of a general description for a variety of behaviors. Put simply, codependency is an addiction to love, where one person in a relationship is devoted and completely invested to a point where it negatively affects his or her emotional and physical well-being.

Substance disorders affects all social, educational, cultural, and age groups. Substance abuse research often focusses on the abuser and the family as a whole but not how it affects their spouse. United States misuse is linked to approximately 590,000 deaths and is responsible for injury or illness to almost 40 million individuals every year. (Cox, R., Ketner, J. & Blow, A. 2013). The consequences resulted from this disorder, are not only related to the substance abusers, but also have a great influence on their behavior and other layers of their life, especially their wives (Salehyan, Bigdeli, & Hashemian 2011). When the husband or boyfriend has an addiction the wife takes on responsibilities of her spouse which causes an increase in stress. Marriage is generally described as a protective factor against substance use. The concept of codependency was developed to explain what happens to the spouse of a substance abuser.

Often in nature organisms rely on one another to survive. Relationships in which each partner gives equally are called symbiotic. The two partners live harmoniously along side one another depending on each other but still have the ability to stand and act alone should they need to. However, these perfect relationships do not always exist. Sometimes, certain organisms take more than they give and as a result the other organism suffers. Those that do this are called parasites. In Toni Morrison's novel, Sula, Sula Peace and Nel Wright demonstrate a symbiotic relationship gone awry. The two start off learning from each other and giving to each other equally, but as they spend more time together Sula seems to thrive and Nel seems to wither away. The relationship does not continue in this manner for Nel realizes that in order to survive she must remove Sula from her life and reverse the negative effect of their relationship. Using the relationship that she develops between Nel and Sula, Morrison implies that codependence can be compromising to oneself, suggesting that if one cannot stand on their own the result will be fatal.
As an undergraduate student the one word that you don’t want to hear from the doctors during a check-up or from a significant other is the word “syphilis”. This is like social suicide in addition to the obvious health issues and pictures that come to mind when hearing about this STD. A term that we have come to hear and to an extent be frightened of ever since that one crazy sex-education teacher ,back in high school, told you it was basically a death sentence if you were to catch it. Now though it’s not necessarily a death sentence it definitely is not your average chicken pox. So what exactly does this have to do with pathology? Everything! Now let’s take a moment to mentally go back in time to the earliest record of this disease.
There are many different types of relationships. From your neighbor to your significant other, experiencing different relationships is a part of everyday life. Wether you posses good or bad communication skills will affect the interpersonal relationships within your life. The popular television series Modern Family is a good example of the different types of friendships, types of love, and relationship theories that encompass the everyday person.
As humans, we are constantly building relationships with others and meeting new people, but sometimes it 's hard to maintain a relationship with another person, when only one person is engaged in it. All healthy relationships or friendships should be based upon the concepts of caring, supporting, and spending time with each other, and if one person is not able to provide these concepts towards the other person, then the relationship quickly becomes one-sided.
Shaping knowledge is similar to reevaluating what a person may consider to be true. While this is neither a positive or negative thing, it impacts the progression of the world, in terms of societal cues, which is constantly reliant on continued shared knowledge among individuals. Shared knowledge shapes personal knowledge, and this is done by strengthening personal knowledge or by bringing its validity into question. This is dependent on the individual accepting knowledge. Syphilis is a sexually transmitting infection caused by Treonema pallidum, a gram negative, and anaerobic spirochete bacteria 1. Syphilis is thought to have been brought to Europe by Columbus and his sailors in the 1500’s 1. The disease is characterized by four different stages with varying symptoms depending on the stage that the disease is in1. Often syphilis is presented with another sexually transmitted infection such as chlamydia. Public education regarding safe sex is important for the prevention of this sexually transmitted infection.
