Westerville is a suburb located in northeast Columbus. It is well-known for its strict laws against alcohol. After Prohibition ended, the suburb remained dry for most of the twentieth century- deeming it the Dry Capital of the world. Apart from it’s interesting take on alcohol, Westville was also the smallest town in the nation to have a first class post office, which was a result of the anti-saloon league mailing 40 tons of mail per month. According to the most recent census (2010) Westerville’s population was 36,120 with an estimated growth of 38,384 as of 2016. The population of this suburb has consistently grown over the years, but has been less drastic in recent years. The median household income from 2010-2014 was $81,763 and the poverty level was at 6.8%, in comparison to Columbus’ household median of $44,774 and poverty level of 22.3%. …show more content…

As Westerville's legislative body, City Council sets policy, establishes goals and approves and oversees the City's annual budget. City manager, David Collinsworth, deals with day to day operations and reports to the city council. Westerville has seen both residential and business growth and this can be attributed to its Boards and Commissions, made up of resident volunteers. These groups have helped shape policy to better benefit current and future businesses and residents. As a result, taxes have increased slowly over the last few years, and levies tend to pass in the area. Residents seem to have pride in local business and maintaining infrastructure and emergency
