What we lose when we just want to survive. Everyone reacts a certain way and did something they wish they hadn’t done in diffrent situations.In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding , a class of boys end up on an island trying to survive. The Lord of the Flies demonstrates how we lose hope and loyalty when our main priority is physical survival . Throughout the story the boys start to lose hope.This can be see when Jack refused to help build the fire and he decided to go and kill a pig instead and the fire burnt out, Ralph says “[Without the fire we can’t be rescued”(pg. 142).This means that the boys on the island had hope when the fire was going and when it burnt out they lost all signs of hope , because no one cared about the fire because that was their only way off. Others might argue that they had hope the whole time because they kept trying and thinking of how to get rescued. However that is not true because they eventually stopped doing those things. But when you consider the other boys, they leave Ralph and go to Jack's group. In addition another reason how they lost loyalty was when all the boys went to Jack's group and samneric stayed out for watch and told Ralph “they are going to hunt you tomorrow”(pg .188) This means that Jack was going to hunt down Ralph and try to kill him , which means that Jack betrayed Ralph and lost all loyalty in each
