Islam means peace, pureness, commitment, and acceptance. As a religion, Islam leads totally to the agreement and obedience to the teaching and guidance of God. When Muhammad the prophet died in the year of 632, there was a split between Muslims; some of the people went with the best companion of Mahoma, Abu Bakr as-Siddiq. Others went to Muhammad’s cousin side, Ali ibn Abi Talib. In other words, followers of Abu became were called Sunnis, and of ibn Ali the Shia.

Muhammad left as his special inheritor only his daughter, Fatima, who had married Ali ibn Abi Talib (One of Muhammad’s cousins). We must note that Sunni and Shia Islam represents the original Islam as lived and taught by Muhammad, in other words, they follow the same rules and do the same actions.
The modern history of Sunni Islam includes the most powerful cultural centers that occurred during all the time from the Abbasid Empire to the contemporary era. According to the same article, Sunni means “Customary or usual practice” and it refers to the customary practice of the Prophet Muhammad and of the development of practice through all the Muslim people. Sunni’s most important acts are: salat (prayer, 5 prays), shahadah (profession of faith), zakat (alms), siyam (Ramadan fasting), and hajj (Kaaba, pilgrimage). These are called the five pillars of Islam.
There are many special events that Islam celebrates the first one is the birthday of the prophet, Muhammad’s emigrant to Medina and the first revelation of the prophet Muhammad.
