Summer Reading Reflection

Being able to read and write is an essential part of development and knowledge. Having a literacy sponsor to encourage you to read is something the majority of students have while growing up. Unfortunately there is percentage of children that do not get this type of role model while growing and I am a part of it. My parents were born and raised in Greece with little education, their families and friends had many jobs in the village and did not put education as their first priority. Not having my parents to guide me throughout my education like my fellow classmates, put me behind on being advanced on my reading capabilities. I went through a stage where I disliked writing and reading and never wanted to open up a book again. Summer reading was always the worst because I would procrastinate until the last minute and use the excuse of not understanding the prompt of the novel to avoid reading it. Having literate knowledge like we have read in articles through English 101, we all know that when it comes to reading and realizing how the writer expects the concept to be received is something a literacy sponsor implants in you to be able to understand. I'm using a figurative language point from a response I have read about in a certain discussion thread. Literature is like planting a seed, turning into an oaks tree. Having to provide nutrients for a seed in order for it to fully grow compares to providing literature knowledge. I compare myself to this because I am too a seed and have gained that nutrients to grow, however; I have not had the same nutrients as the other tree next me, none of us have.
