Summer reading: a single word that causes thousands of students dread and apprehension nationwide. If we single out these words "summer", this word reminds kids of endless fun and even better no school; "reading" reminds kids of boring a waste of time. Reading doesn’t deserve this title of boring and a waste of time, if anything reading is fun and a source of endless knowledge. Over time reading has built a reputation to kids of being a waste of time and very boring, but reading is not all that bad. Reading acts as a mirror and a window. Last summer I read the book "Lord of the Flies", which is about the life of young boys who ended up on an island with no adults. This led to the disbanding of their laws, as the children started to fight and act like savages. Over the course of the book, the children became less and less civilized because there were no adults or consequences for any actions. The book really portrayed the idea of whether humans are born evil or if it is society that turns good people into evil ones. The book used children who weren’t yet exposed to society, however, the result was quite disappointing, the book suggests that humans are born evil, due to the fact that these young children who hadn’t yet been exposed to evil, were still cruel people that had little empathy and morale. In the book, the text acted as a window, as it explored a hypothetical scenario where children were placed on an island and seeing what their actions and interactions would be.
