The Author’s Methods of the characters settings and themes in Tim’s Short Stories, are related to In Each of the chosen Tim Winton short stories, ‘Big World’, ‘On Her Knees’ and ‘Damaged Goods’, the Protagonists always observe something unusual or unfair, that has happened to either them or someone else, and stir on the situation for example, in On Her Knees and Damaged Goods the observed people are placid and nice but the environments that surround them can be cruel
The theme of ‘Big World’ is self-discovery, a key issue associated with this topic is the main character’s or narrator’s feelings and views on their situation, after failing year 12 completely and working in an abattoir, unhappy with their town and jobs, the main character and his best friend “Biggie”, “Shoot up North” to escape their sorrows. The Language techniques Tim Winton used, are all from the view of the protagonist. In Big World the type of language is English descriptive Australian Slang, “Vic Lang, The Copper’s Kid is Dux of the school”.
