Throughout the course of history there have been many things that have changed the world and mad it the way it is today. There has been inventions that were successful and some unsuccessful. The Wright brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright were small town boys. The brothers became interested in flight at a very early age, they spent years studying how flight can be achieved, and they made multiple prototypes, and finally the plane. Wilbur Wright was born April 16, 1867 close to Millwood Indiana. Orville was born on August 19, 1871. The brothers were four years apart. They did everything together and to most people seemed like twins. “From the time we were little children, my brother Orville and myself lived together, played together, worked together and, in fact, thought together.” (Freedman). When the boys were young there father traveled around often for work. One day he came home with a toy he called the helicopter and he gave it to them. It was a flying toy that they quickly renamed “The Bat”. When the toy broke Orville who was in first grade at the time was trying to make a new one, a better one (McPherson). As they got older they began to try and make for flying machines and they became very interested in the thought that human thought was possible. At one point Orville stated “We could not under-stand that there was anything about a bird that could not be built on a larger scale and used by man.” (McPherson). They made kites that they would test and would end up selling. The brothers opened up a bicycle shop in which they would eventually start to build their first glider (Freedman). Because the Wright brothers wanted to achieve flight they studied everything that was out there on flight. They also studied birds and how... ... middle of paper ... ... that consisted of a tower that held a one thousand six hundred pound weight. The weight was connected to a set of pulleys that were attached to the flyer. As the weight was dropped the flyer was launched into the air. This accomplished getting the flyer air born and after that there was no trouble staying in the air (Freedman). In 1906 the brothers received a patent after many rejections (McPherson). The brothers did something that the world thought to be impossible for humans to achieve. Due to the Wright brothers determination in succeedingthey succeeded in creating the first the plane which is now an everyday part of life. Without their work and effort life would be much different in the world and traveling around the world would take a much longer amount of time. Since the invention of the plane the world has accomplished many feats thought to be impossible.
