“While it may seem small, the ripple effects of small things is extraordinary” is a quote that perfectly fits the novella Signs Preceding the End of the World. This hundred-paged novella by Yuri Herrera might seem tiny but it’s loaded with the culture, language and life of people of those Mexico and the United States. Herrera also provides us a glimpse of life of an immigrant in the States. He explores the crossings and translations people make in their minds and language as they move from one country to another, especially when there’s no going back. The novella starts with the journey of a Mexican girl named Makina in search of her brother who had been long-lost in the US. Mr. Aitch, an underworld dog, tricked Makina’s brother saying that
