We arrived at the home of John and Rachel Muir on September 21st, 2017 at around 1:30 a.m. When we arrived, John Muir’s body was lying at the foot of the stairs. He was holding an unbroken liquor bottle in his left hand. he was faced as if he fell backwards as he was going up stairs in the hallway. According to the autopsy, there was a wound on his head, and he had in fact, been inebriated when he was found deceased on the stairs. “Something terrible happened John slipped and fell on the stairs.” Rachel Muir stated, “He was coming down for another drink and I think he’s dead. It seems unlikely that the bottle still rests in your hands after falling down a flight of stairs when a person would usually let go in order to catch themselves. The staircase that John Muir was resting on are covered in carpet. Usually if there is carpet on a staircase it helps in a way to stop a fall. In John Muir’s case he was intoxicated so the chances of him falling were higher than usual. The evidence that we’ve discovered did not, in fact support the claims that Rachel Muir made, essentially with minor details that would not usually prove to be true. Anna Garcia was found lying facedown in the entry to her home at around 9:56 am. The EMT and police were notified by Anna’s neighbor, who called 911 because she wasn’t answering her phone or the door. It was determined that her approximate time of death was 7:00 am. CSI team canvassed the scene and found a syringe, orange liquid (assumed to be orange juice) by her left hand, as well as hair and blood on a fallen table to her left. Several people were persons of interest in this case. They include Anna’s former husband (Alex Garcia), the neighbour that called 911 and was recently involved with her (Doug Greene), her ex-husband’s new wife (Erica Piedmont), and her friend/business partner (Lucy Leffingwell).

The crime scene was then secured at 10:20 am for investigation. The crime scene was confined to a 10’ by 20’ entry hallway. At the crime scene, investigators marked areas where vomit, blood stains, blood spatter, footprints, a strand of hair, scattered pills, a syringe, and dirty cup were lying on the floor. Stress Induced Suicide Julie Scelfo’s “Suicide on Campus and the Pressure of Perfection” first appeared in The New York Times magazine on July 27, 2015. Scelfo discusses the pressure that family, society, and the individual places on themselves to be perfect. This stress ultimately results in college- age students taking their own lives. “Nationally, the suicide rate among 15- to 24-year-olds has increased modestly but steadily since 2007: from 9.6 deaths per 100,000 to 11.1 in 2013.” Scelfo uses an anecdote, statistics, and expert’s observations to successfully portray her stance on this issue.

In The Murder of Helen Jewett, Patricia Cohen uses one of the most trivial murders during the 1800’s to illustrate the sexiest society accommodations to the privileged, hypocritical tunneled views toward sexual behavior, and the exploitation of legal codes, use of tabloid journalism, and politics. Taking the fact that woman was made from taking a rib from man was more than biblical knowledge, but incorporated into the male belief that a woman’s place is determined by the man. Helen had the proper rearing a maid servant, but how did she fall so far from grace. Judge Weston properly takes credit for rearing her with the proper strictness and education. Was Helen seduced at an early age and introduced to sexual perversions that were more persuasive that the bible belt life that the Weston’s tried to live? Was Helen simply a woman who knew how to use what she had to get what she wanted? Through personal correspondence, legal documentation, census reports, paintings, and newspapers we are able to make our own determinations. Cohen provides more than enough background and history to allow any one to make their own opinion how the murder of a woman could be turned into a side show at a circus.
Women in the year 2016 have come a long way since 1800s, yet the fight to be completely equal has not been reached. There are two poems, one “My Last Duchess” by Robert Browning, and “Suicide Note” by Janice Mirihitani that show some gender roles and how unequal they are. Some gender roles are too over the edge and can cause a person’s death because women are seen as object, and women are not seen as valuable as men.

A common cause of accidental death in the aged population is falling. The elderly has a high risk of falls related to more than 200 risk factors. The main categories are age-related deterioration, a problem with balance, gait mobility, visual impairment, cognitive impairment, blackouts, incontinence, drug therapy, and personal hazards (Nazarko, 2011, p. 323).
When taking steps to analyze and apply intervention strategies for falls, we must examine the factors that cause these occurrences. There are numerous reasons that falls occur, such as intrinsic and or extrinsic risk factors. Intrinsic risk factors for falls may be due to changes that are part of the normal aging process and acute or chronic conditions. According to Zheng, Pan and Hua et al. (2013), about 35-45 percent of individuals who are usually older than 65 years and other 50 percent of the elderly individuals report cases of fall every year. Extrinsic factors are those related to physical environment such as lack of grab bars, poor condition of floor surfaces, inadequate or improper use of assistive devices (Currie).
