In the article Afghan teen uses rap to escape forced marriage written by Deborah Bloom from CNN, Bloom focuses in on Sonita Alizadeh, a teenager from Afghanistan who escaped a forced marriage. At as young as ten years old, Alizadeh was bargained off to man to be wed to, however, her family had to flee from Afghanistan to Iraq, making the union impossible. When Alizadeh was 16, she created a song titled “Brides for sale”, which landed her a scholarship to a university in Utah, saving her from the arranged marriage she was to be sold into, once again. Since then, Alizadeh has performed her song in several places including, Washington D.C. and New York City. Alizadeh opens the eyes of unaware people to the helplessness of women being persecuted in countries like Afghanistan who require urgent help. …show more content…

When Malala was 15-years old (2012) she was riding a bus home from her school when a member of the Taliban, masked, boarded the bus. After demanding for the identity of Malala, he shot her in the neck. After three months of intensive surgeries and face reconstruction, Malala was released from the hospital she occupied in the United Kingdom. Since then, Malala has been awarded multiple honors and awards for her inspirational actions including the Nobel Peace Prize. Malala’s independence as a women and an education activist has opened the eyes of unknowing people globally. On November 11, 2013, Malala visited the United Nations conference in New York and said, “Let us pick up our books and our pens...They are our most powerful weapons.
