In “Globalization vs. Americanization”, Andrew Lam is explaining through personal life experiences that globalization is not the same as Americanization. Lam uses pathos, through his inclusion of his personal background, analogy, compares and contrasts Disney Animation and Ondaatje’s novels to express the vast difference between viewpoints, and logos, with the many examples of globalization and Americanization throughout the world, to explain what globalization and Americanization truly mean. Lam uses pathos-appeal to the audience's emotions- to connect to the audience's emotions through his personal history. When in reality globalization not only can be found within American borders but can also be found at the core of American culture. Lam uses examples of existing culture hubs found within American cities to explain that traces of globalization can be found within American culture today. As new cultures are introduced to the American culture they leave their unique mark on American culture; changing it slightly to be more like itself. Many cultures have left their marks on other countries’ cultures. Many do this with the help of those who live their home country and become apart of other cultures. Thanks to those people who bring their own cultures into their new homes, globalization is possible. Thanks to globalization, Lam expresses that the 'modern man' is now able to adapt and respect other cultures. Globalization has created a constant flow of new cultures being introduced to countries around the world. This constant changes and influences within each society has given man the opportunity to explore other cultures and traditions without having to physically be in another country. Globalization has created a newly developed respect for other cultures. Thanks to globalization man is no longer restricted to a single location nor is he required to be constantly moving around to be able to experience the different cultures around the world. Traditional ties no longer hold man down within his culture.
