For the Science Reader project, I read Black Holes, Wormholes, and Time Machines by Jim Al-Khalili. Interested in time travel and the secrets of space, I chose this book with hopes of better understanding our universe.
Adolescence is a monster that lurks in the dreams of parents. It’s a strange new world to children and they never see coming. It’s the time of life when a world that never changes is thrown upside down. Yet, it affects more than the adolescent. It can impact families as a whole, such as the owl family shown in Larry Shles’ book, Aliens in My Nest. Squib the little owl, comes home to find his loving brother Andrew gone. Instead, it appears he has changed into a strange new creature with bumps on his beak, and clumpy feathers. His temper is short and he doesn’t appear to love his parents or brother. In response, their parents are at the ends of their ropes, and they even take Andrew to be diagnosed with owlescence, a play on adolescence. The
It is a fiction book. It is for young adults. I enjoy reading these types of books and typically read them more than other types of books.

In the beginning of the book, it foreshadows an atomic war on Earth. Humans have broken out into violence all over the Earth. Humanity had to put up with constant bombing and constant chaos. The skies were always red, and there is always pain that flows through the air. Humanity thinks about ways to escape all the chaos to go to a place that might provide a peaceful environment. One place comes to mind; this place is secluded and no brutal environment. It is called Mars. They need a rocket to get Mars. Two astronauts finally go on this expedition. It is considered the first attempt to a new peaceful place.
Aliens, robots, rockets, shrunken heads that talk, and planets being sold, are some sort of science. It also adds in science references and terms dealing with space, like the...

Peters in Chapter six, “Machines, Animals, and Aliens,” talks about 20th century and new technology that has influence in communication. Movies, television, phones and internet. He follows the idea of analyzing how these new mediums effect the communication and gave a new form and understanding to that. Peters claims that “the chief challenge to communication in the twentieth century is contact with beings that lack mortal form” (pg 227). He talks about Rene Descartes and his idea of communication, “communication a distinctly human capacity that distinguishes us from animals and machines” (pg 231). Then Peters talks about Alan Turing, his computing machine and intelligence test, and asks question of “how can you tell a human from a fake?”(pg
1. Subject: Bill Bryson is writing about science and the discoveries we have made into knowing about the universe, and the earth's existence.
This book was a good read for me, but I also read book reviews to help me keep track on what I am reading. These book reviews just made a better understanding of what I was reading.
The existence of life – Aliens, beyond our planet has been a controversial topic for several centuries, and is a debatable issue even today in the 21st century. What is our topic you may ask? Aliens, Do, Exist. According to theoretical physicist, Stephen Hawking, it would be improbable for life not to exist somewhere other than Earth. This is a bold claim, but there is evidence to support this statement. The evidence we seek is in the many Alien occurrences we have experienced throughout human history.
Things like time travel and parallel universes are prominent in the story. The characters Leo and Jaya both use the time machine to meet famous inventor Nikola Tesla to help solve a problem involving the fate of time itself. In the end they succeed over the madman successfully thwarting his plans. The Wells Bequest would probably appeal to many teenagers. It is recommended because it shows action well and that would keep readers interested. Also, it has great imagery. It allows the reader to clearly see a picture of the scene in their mind. The author also did an excellent job in showing each character's individual quirks. This makes it so that readers will genuinely attach to each character. Some things however could have been executed better. For example, the author took too long before getting to the main juice of the story. This led the reader to experience boredom before they could really get into the plot. As stated before, this novel is science fiction because it displays multiple events and attributes that are scientific in nature yet dance around with fictional
Even though it is science fiction, the characters are engaging and understandable. The story focuses more on the characters situation than the aliens trying to take over, with
There are many different topics that are related to aliens. For example; crop circles, abductions, strange lights, mysterious marks on the body, and forced sexual experiments are all attributed to aliens. Sagan spends the next half of the book explaining how these claims are irrational and giving are more logical reasoning other than aliens. Crop circles are just teens playing a prank on farmers. Abductions are mass hallucinations that are implanted in people's heads by social media. Strange lights are planes or natural astronomical events.Mysterious marks are people who unknowingly mutilate themselves. The forced sexual experiments are stories made up by rape victims who are in denial. After Sagan had fully disproved every potential alien theory, he went on to talk about a very old type of pseudoscience, witchcraft. Witchcraft is a classic example of a small group of people taking advantage of the easily moldable minds of the a group of people. The punishment for being a witch was being executed. So, if someone didn’t like someone or wanted them dead they would just say they were a witch. There was no
As you can see we have been temporarily blinded from the truth by fictional things that are easy to believe and that we want to believe. There are so many incorrect theories and ideas and most of them are just plain ridiculous. Astronomy can be a very complicated subject, but it is very necessary to understand what really happens in our galaxy and out in the huge frontier we call space.
