The book that I’m reading is called 99 Days. 99 Days is written by Katie Cotugno and was published from Balzer + Bay. The book’s copy date is ⓒ2015 and the total pages are 384. The main characters in the story are Molly Barrow, Patrick, Gabe, Imogen, Tess, and Julia. Molly Barrow is introduced as a girl who is judged on everyone for cheating on her boyfriend, Patrick with his brother, Gabe. She transfers to a new school, but comes back in summer with heartbreak and joy. Patrick is Molly’s ex boyfriend who has hatred to Molly every since she got back from summer and was Molly’s first love. Gabe is Patrick’s brother and who Molly cheated with. The main character was supposed to learn that repeating the mistake again will never let you go anywhere and just lead to consequences. The message I got was that when making a mistake, make sure to don’t repeat instead learn from them and improve. I had to admit the story was filled with drama and heartbreak, but the story showed a brilliant lesson, and that you have to stand up for yourself. My favorite parts of the book where Imogen and Molly were friends again and when Molly stood up to Julia. The moments when Imogen and Molly were friends again were truly genuine and you can see the true connection between them as friends. Furthermore, when Molly stood up to Julia, it gave you a relief and made you say the word, finally. If I would have to give this book a rating, I would give it a 3.5/5, because the story was yet amazing, but I wish that Patrick and Gabe should have got some punishment and some blame and it was quite unbelievable that Molly made the same mistake twice, oblivious to the results. In 1776, David McCullough gives a vivid portrayal of the Continental Army from October 1775 through January 1777, with sharp focus on the leadership of America’s greatest hero, George Washington. McCullough’s thesis is that had not the right man (George Washington) been leading the Continental Army in 1776, the American Revolution would have resulted in a vastly different outcome. He supports his argument with a critical analysis of Washington’s leadership during the period from the Siege of Boston, through the disastrous defense of New York City, the desperate yet, well ordered retreat through New Jersey against overwhelming odds, and concludes with the inspiring victories of Trenton and Princeton. By keeping his army intact and persevering through 1776, Washington demonstrated to the British Army that the Continental Army was not simply a gang of rabble, but a viable fighting force. Additionally, Mr. McCullough supports his premise that the key to the survival of the American Revolution was not in the defense of Boston, New York City, or any other vital terrain, but rather the survival of the Continental Army itself. A masterful piece of history, 1776 is not a dry retelling of the Revolutionary War, but a compelling character study of George Washington, as well as his key lieutenants, and his British adversaries, the most powerful Army in the 18th Century world. When I read this book, I went from a casual understanding of the hero George Washington to a more specific understanding of why Washington was quite literally the exact right man at the exact right place and time to enable the birth of the United States.
Once I get past all of the rambling I did in the past paragraphs, I honestly really enjoyed the book. Though it wasn't like most of the other books I’ve read (meaning I didn't cry during the process of reading it), the characters were just as provokingly interesting as the characters in other stories, it was a little edgy and made me want to yell at it, shouting at Sam when she wouldn’t let Tyler play video games with Danny, or Danny when he called to have Sam and Tyler taken to a separate facility. Overall, this book opened me up to something that just isn't a romance novel. This story really shows that there are people with a lot of difficulties in their lives, and that’s what I liked the most about it.
The plot of the book, Speak is that Melinda Sordino, a freshman at Merryweather High went to an end of the summer party with some of her friends. Things take a turn for the worst when a senior named Andy Evans sexually assaults her at the party without her friends knowing about it. Melinda is frightened, afraid, and does not know what to do so she calls 911 busting the party, and causing her friends and everyone at that school to hate her, even if they don’t know her.
Markus Zusak reads as, Death, he watches over everyone during the time of World War Two, taking souls when the time comes for them to be set free. He tells us a little inside scoop of what's going on in the destruction that was happening outside of Liesel's story.
To me, this book was much more than a good read. It was a real life, up close and personal story, of a very possible situation. The truth is, it can happen to anyone. A matter of being in the wrong place, at the wrong time. It clearly depicts what goes on in the halls of a high school. It supports the notion that so many kids are fighting depression but nobody cares until they do something drastic. Life can be hard, and sometimes it gets harder before it gets easier. But there is always light at the end of the tunnel. This is story of true bravery and strength to overcome the monsters around you, and the most difficult one to fight, yourself.

Karana lives near a little cove in San Nicolas. Coral Cove has plenty of fish and cool water. Karana is a brave and has learned how to find food and stay alive on the island all alone. She ending up living alone after a Russian ship approached the island where the Ghalat-at people live. When some of the people from the ship reach the land of the island. Karana’s dad who is also chief of the tribe Chowig went down to meet the visitors along with some of his warriors. Captain Orlov and the Aleut tribe have visited the island to see if they can hunt otter on their land. Chowig and Orlov have a disagreement and finally for half of their profits in the form of jewelry. After hunting season was complete Chowing asked for payment and and they can’t agree on a sum and a fight breaks out and many of the Ghalat-at people are killed including Chief Chowig. Kimki was then chosen as chief.
The novel says a great deal about humanity. It covers global topics that many if not most teenagers and even adults deal with every day. This novel represents for most of humanity, even in the face of feeling lost, or suffering grief, that there is always “hope” and personal resiliency, and a way to move on a forward. Even if we are searching for a greater meaning in life, and determining our personal beliefs of religion, that you can still celebrates someone’s life, no matter how short or long a life they live. Even if it is “prank” to commemorate someone’s life. We can always take something good away from the interactions of those that impact our life. You define who you are, but can find love, enlightenment, joy, sorrow and resiliency from the friends that become family.
This book has taught me a lot about Alexander Hamilton. Most of it was a surprise to me. This book includes where he was born, how he moved to the United States, what he had done to contribute to the country, and his wife and kids. This book has plenty of insight on one of our greatest leaders.
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher begins when Clay Jensen receives seven audiotapes recorded by Hannah Baker, a girl from his town who recently killed herself. According to Hannah, each person on her tapes is a reason for her suicide. Clay is on the tapes, yet doesn’t see why. He has to listen to figure it out. When Clay finally gets to his tape, it is exposed that he wasn’t actually blamed for her suicide. Clay realizes that even though he didn't do anything bad to Hannah, he let rumors stand in the way of their budding relationship. Clay could have made a positive difference in Hannah’s life and hopefully prevented her suicide. Clay's possible role in Hannah's is hard for Clay to comprehend. He knows Hannah did this to her self, but is angry because he didn't do anything to stop her. Clay who’s normally calm gets so mad; he punches a fence and cuts his hand. Clay after staying up all night listening to the tapes brings himself to school the next day, realizing he cant hide the rest of his life and reaches out to another girl, Skye Miller. He does this hoping to keep her from the same fate of Hannah.
The fiction, Emperor of China: Self-portrait of K’ang-Hsi, is written by Jonathan D. Spence in 1974. Based on various historical records and the letters written by K’ang Hsi Emperor, Spence creates a fictional memoir to describe K’ang Hsi’s later years. This book is divided into six chapters plus two appendixes. The first chapter, “In Motion”, illustrates his talents in hunting skills and his extensive knowledge on how to survive by taking the natural advantages during wars. The second chapter, “Ruling”, expresses K’ang Hsi’s opinions on how to rule the country. The third chapter, “Thinking”, compares the cultures and ideologies between the Western countries and China. The fourth chapter, “Growing Old”, shows his medical knowledge and how to apply in real life and medical clinic in the palace. The last chapter, “Son”, shows his father’s love toward his sons and the process and conflicts on the succession. The additional translated appendixes display K’ang Hsi’s seventeen letters and his final valedictory edict that hidden from the palace. Those original documents clearly the audience a clear idea of K’ang Hsi’s inner self. This book report will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of reading this book and how this book affects the reader.
The book is mostly about death, loss and depression, which is not the sort of book some people would want to read. Even though the depressive atmosphere is well described in the book, it also makes you feel bad for the different characters and depresses yourself. Also, the notes and poems Lennie writes throughout the book are quite confusing. They are challenging for the readers at first, because there is no reference to the notes and poems in the story until the end. You have to read the book again if you want to understand the notes from the beginning and how they connect to the story. It will be a pleasurable experience for those people, who enjoyed reading it the first time and like connecting hidden hints from the beginning of the story to the outcome of
The theme developed in this book is so important. Even if the event that happens to you isn’t to the same extent as what happened to Melinda, it’s still so important to reach out and ask for help. I think that the events in this book could easily happen to someone and it is such a simple book to relate too. So many people go throughout their days thinking that they are alone and have no one to go too, but that’s so wrong and this book shows that there are some situations you don’t have to handle on your
Throughout the novel the reader finds out that one cannot stew over a negative situation, but instead, find the positive in a negative situation and move on to better things. In addition, people should always be themselves because we all matter, no matter what our differences.
