Jose’ Marti’ was born in Havana, Cuba to poor Spanish immigrates. Marti’ fled to New York to be with people that had also escaped. Jose’ Marti’ became a great lawyer and worked with many court cases in Cuba. Jose’ Marti’ died as a heroic man and then the Spanish troops just killed him in cold blood.

The Cubans rebelled in 1868. This rebellion lasted for ten years, and now this war is named the Ten Year War. After the war ended many Cubans were running to the United States of America fearing Spain of what they would do to them and other cubans. They had refuges and some of these refuges were leaders of the revolution and would help Cuba in the future. Arrest and executions were held everywhere in Cuba, causing a deeper resentment of Spain by the Cubans. On April,1895, Gomez and Maceo who were leaders in the ten year war, along with Jose’ Marti’ returned to Cuba and started another revolution. Asiatic Squadron destroyed the Spanish Pacific fleet in the first major battle of the Spanish-American war. The battle of Manila bay lasted 7 hours and Americans destroyed the whole Spanish fleet. The Spanish had one of the new weapons and they forgot to load the gun on the ship. The Spanish vessels, trapped in the little harbor of Cavite, refused to surrender and late that morning fighting resumed. Before all this happened the USS Maine was blown out of the water.
