Differences between the student health services and the student-run clinic
Since Oregon State already has a Student health services, there will be a new extension to the health services, which will be a student-run facility. Oregon State University has provided help for clinical assistance, however it has not helped to develop the experience of health field students. The student health services will be thrown to the ground. The new student-run clinic will be built in the same area and will have some extra extensions then what the student health services had. The new facility will be bigger. There will be more opportunities for students to get involved and experience the health career by assisting a doctor.

However, there are other universities who also have student-run facilities. The University of California, San Diego has a clinic project. In this clinic, the students provide help to individuals who do not have access to any health care (UCSD School of Medicine, 2016). The USCD student-run free clinic project offers medical services, dental services, social and community services, health counseling and education services (UCSD School of Medicine, 2016). In this clinic the students gain experience in primary care, learn the aspect of a clinic and the services administered to a patient (UCSD School of Medicine, 2016). The similarities between other facilities and the clinic that will be at the university will be that students will be gaining experience by receiving help from a specialist. These facilities are free and will help individuals who need primary health care. The USCD student-run clinic and the facility at OSU both have dental services. There is a 95% of pre-medical students who volunteer at the the facilities and a 77% of medical students (University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, 2013). Most students who volunteer are in their first and second years with a percentage rate of 25 (University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, 2013). The third and fourth years have a 20% rate (University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, 2013). There are approximately 37% of graduate volunteers students and 35% of undergraduate students (University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, 2013). Since these clinics do not ask for any insurance and are free for anyone with any health problems, there are some statistical information that the University of Pennsylvania gathered of patients who use the free clinic facilities the most. Hispanics and African-Americans are the most common type of patients with a 31%. Caucasians have a 25% and Asians a 11% (University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, 2013).
