Three major Sociological models view and analyze the social behaviors of human beings in society. These models are structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. Structural Functionalism views society as a complicated system with various parts that are used to keep society unified. Conflict theory sees society, as a place where conflict is inherent, and people will always compete for resources and power. Symbolic interactionism views society as a place where interactions among people guide the way in which society is governed. Each of these three models describes and analyzes the topic of education. While structural functionalism only looks at the positive side of education, conflict theory and symbolic interactionism In the functionalist view, education serves a part in unifying society by focusing education on the socialization and skill development of children to prepare them to work in the interests of society. According to the functionalist perspective, education serves both primary and secondary functions. The secondary purpose of education is for children to learn social and networking skills that will help them to find jobs in the future. The primary goals of education are to teach students the rules and norms of society so they can get a job and be functioning members of society. Also, sorting is done in this form of education to separate the students based on how well they are doing in their school. Sorting is done by standardized tests that show how well these students do in academics, which gives an idea on which roles students will pay in society. Furthermore, functionalists think that any disruption to education can lead to distortions in society since some positions aren 't being filled. It is true that work should come from education, but this sociological model only sees education to be used for the will of society, which can lead to a totalitarian state where society dictates a person 's worth. Structural functionalism only focuses on the positives of education while neglecting that it can use to make people believe that their lives are only to work for money and serve their nations When teachers label students on performance and merits than that impacts the student 's performance inside and outside of school. For example, when a teacher labels a student as the poor academic performer or lazy, that labeling leaves the student to continue their bad habits and do badly in school since they grow to accept this label. Also, accomplishments such as degrees that are given to students also have an impact on education since these achievements are a factor to the type of job and learning the student will obtain the future. Also, these accomplishments put labels on the student, which dictate the students worth and job accessibility once they finish their education. Furthermore, Symbolic Interactionism exposes how education as the place where students interact and are labeled by their teachers, which influence their worth to society in the future. This excessive labeling will often lead to students believing that they only maintain one role in the society, so they will always follow those above them in the class structure since they believe that their label is what defines their role to
