Strikes of the 70's and 80's: The Invisible Role of Women Throughout history women have slowly moved from the role of mother and housewife into the labor force. In the middle of this rise in stature is a relatively unknown set of events that helped women gain the self-respect and individual attitude needed to move up in the work force. Women's participation in strikes during the 1970's and 80's is relatively unknown in U.S. history. Although the women involved in these strikes made a big impact on the strike and its outcome, they go widely unrecognized and uncredited for their roles. This paper will focus on three strikes: the Brookside Coal Strike, the Phelps-Dodge Copper Strike, and the Pittston Coal Strike. Each of these strikes has its own individual history and story, but they have many things in common as well. Most importantly, each strike had women participants who greatly impacted the strike and did a small part to help women move towards a place in the labor force. Each of the three strikes will be examined from the standpoint of five main factors. First, what were the roles of women in the strike? What kind of work were they involved in? Second, what interest did the women have in the strike? Third, what kind of relationship did the union have with the women? Did it impair their efforts or support them? Fourth, how did the women ultimately impact the strike? Were they seen as a positive influence? In addition, were they seen as positive by the media or ignored by them? And lastly, what happened after the strike? Did the women continue their new, politically active roles or did they go back to the lives they lived before the strike? Each of these questions will be addressed for each of the three strikes discussed... ... middle of paper ... ...rt of something much bigger that would eventually lead to women as an integral part of the labor force. Every morning, six days a week, hundreds of thousands of people, the majority of them women, crowded the streets of NYC on the way to work in the city’s factories. Many of these workers were immigrants who left their country in hope for a better future in America. During this time, men were superior to women, resulting in more women employment in garment factories because they required less pay, and men did not expect women to rebel against them. These ladies

It should go without saying that we should be careful with how use essential oils. Just like you wouldn’t give someone over the counter drugs without properly reading the label and considering the risks, you should do the same with essential oils. Essential oils are potent and powerful substances that can cause burns when used improperly on the skin and internal issues when misused internally.

These oils, referred to as essential oils, are the basic materials used in aromatherapy and are taken from parts of the plant such as the root, stalk, flowers, leaves, bark, or rind. "Each type of essential oil has a different chemical composition that affects how it smells, how it is absorbed, and how it is used by the body" (NIH). Once the plants oils are extracted, they may either be distilled with steam and/or water or mechanically pressed. Oils that are made from chemical processes are not considered to be pure essential oils and therefore their benefits will not be the same as using a pure essential oil. The match strikes at the Bryant and Factory of 1888 can be considered as a vastly significant event in Britain in relation to labour rights, and is reasoned to be a large victory for the working-class women of the East End. It cannot be denied that these strikes were instrumental in the amelioration of circumstances for those involved, both materially and figuratively. According to Sarah Boston, the strikes acted as ‘The match that lit the explosion of ‘new Unionism’’. This alone establishes the match strikes as an important moment in history, and did improve the lives for those involved. This essay will put forth the argument that these strikes were successful,
Aromatherapy literally means treatment with scent. The extracted aromatic oil from a plant is called essential oil. So, to break it down, aromatherapy is using the essential oils obtained from a part of a plant for the purpose of health promotion or enhancement (NAHA, 2018).
