Millions use StrengthsFinder for its unique capacity in charting any individual’s top five talents. The ability to uncover one’s particular set of talents is a discovery that can lead to further development and wisdom in one’s life. My top strength is Individualization. To me, this strength means the ability to figure people out and understand the true uniqueness of others. With this strength, I am able to make things run smoothly and, at the same time, able to involve everyone in a group. The next strength I have is strategic, which enables me to find alternative ways to deal with problems. Therefore, I am also able to make things run smoothly and according to plan. In addition to these two strengths, my third strength is competitive which measures how successful I am compared against others. This is great because it helps me to endure and work hard in order to make it to the top. My fourth strength is restorative which is a talent that helps me to deal with any problems that may arise and ensure that things continue going according to plan. This strength means that I can endure and overcome any adversity that comes my way. My last strength is achiever. This is a strength that helps me to work hard and always be productive. Being an achiever maintains my ability to always keep going and to constantly feel the need to be productive. My top five strengths are both great and damaging to myself. My talent for achieving and competiveness guarantees that I am never satisfied and constantly needing to rise to the top. While these are great strengths to have, it qualifies that I never able to truly rest or feel the satisfaction of a work well done because I am already moving to the next hurdle. Knowing someone else’s strengths can help to understand what leads their decisions and how they might react to a situation. Being able to pair up people within a team using these strengths as a guide is ingenious. For example, if someone has an affinity for empathy, then that person is great at understanding other’s emotional states and should be paired up with someone with a command or activator theme. Having a person with a command or activator theme paired up with someone with the talent of empathy helps the person with empathy take necessary action against others despite an overwhelming emotional compassion. Being able understand and match up the necessary individuals according to activating themes is something that is invaluable in leadership.
These strengths and weaknesses were mainly discovered through the papers that we have written. I have many strengths when I’m writing papers and at the same time, I have many weaknesses. In my papers, I have noticed that one of my biggest strengths is how articulate I am. The papers that have been written by myself show that I structured sentences to present ideas in different ways. It is not straightforward and boring when ideas are presented. I like to keep the reader hooked on my paper. In order to keep up with this strength, I like to read articles. Strengths Finder 2.0 uses an online assessment to evaluate the individuals unique talents by having the taker rate how they view a particular question in 20 seconds or less (Rath, 2007). After taking the assessment, my five strengths were determined to be achiever, maximizer, input, arranger, and relator (Gallup StrengthsFinder, 2012).
The StrengthsFinder assessment revealed that my top five strengths are: context, responsibility, relator, adaptability and learner. I gained insight and action planning skills for each theme when I read StrengthsQuest (Gallup, 2010). The information provided in StrengthsQuest increased my self awareness. I was amazed to find that I actually agree with most of the results in the assessment..
After reading Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath, I learned that there are thirty four different themes that one could have as strengths. Each strength has its own positive that allow people to better work with the people who have this style of strengths. Another key topic that I learned is that everyone has their own types of personal strengths. The main principle that was taken away from reading this book was that the old phrase of “You can be anything you want to be” is not a true statement (p. 6). We are all taught this idea at a very young age and it tends to stick with us for the rest of our lives. Forced by the past, most people are required to try to fix their weaknesses, but not improve on our strengths. We cannot truly be anything we want to be because we are not built this way. We are programmed to tend to stick with things that we are good at and when thrown at a task similar to the one we are good at we do not just excel at the other task. By sticking to increasing our strengths that we already have instead of fixing our weaknesses, we will be able to become a better human being because we are better the things in which we are good at.

After completing the Clifton strength finders test, I learned my dominant strengths and it gave me a sense on what areas I am strong in. It allows you to work in the areas that you are good in and not in the ones you might not be as strong in. My top five strengths were learner, connectedness, belief, positivity, and includer. A lot of these I figured I would have because I am an athlete and I love to be positive. That is good because I practice these strengths every day which in turn will make me better at them and will allow me to use them in my career.
An individual’s top five strengths are characteristics that generate the most intense instinctual response. I believe that the five strengths that i received correspond and resonate strongly with my character. Those themes that received my strongest instinctual responses are: communication, positivity, woo, includer, and harmony strengths after completion of the Strengthsfinder assessment. The five themes can be seen as rather similar, and they are, but individually the unique differences are definitively seen in my character, and as a whole have an even greater response than when seen just individually.
Have you ever been in an interview and the interviewer asked, “What are three main strengths and weaknesses you have?” This question tends to take individuals by surprise because they have not put much thought into themselves or what they are good at and what they need improvement on. Being able to recognize our strengths and weaknesses can help us meet the needs of our day to day lives. The goal of StrengthsFinder is to gain knowledge about your talents so that you can build them into strengths.
The results of the StrengthsQuest assessment were very interesting. In fact, I was surprised by how accurately the talents aligned with my goals and personality. My top five strengths were futuristic, input, arranger, responsibility, and intellection. I define futuristic as always thinking about the next steps or thinking about how my actions in the present will affect my future. Also, I define input as offering my perspective on things especially issues that I feel strongly about. Next, I define arranger as someone who likes to brings ideas together and consider the logistics when planning things. Another strength that I have is being an active listener. I listened to my clients and utilized a lot of micro skills. Insuring confidentiality was also a strength that I developed closer to the end of field placement. Conducting assessments and making sure I tracked and exhausted the topics was also a strength that I identified throughout field. One of my greatest strengths at work that I have recognized would have to be my ability to be a well-organized individual. I tend to write what I have to do down on paper and prioritize what is more important to least important. In doing this, it helps me organize and accomplish my work and meet deadlines that are important. A personal strength that I have at home is patience.
