The opportunity to vote for the officials that represent our government, I feel, is quintessentially American. Throughout our history, the right to vote has been something people have fought for. The framers created the foundation for the electoral system we know today. There are notable strengths and weaknesses within our electoral process, most notably with the Electoral College, that I would like to review. The United States is a constitutional democracy, a type of government characterized by limitations on government power spelled out in a written constitution. Written in 1787, the U.S. Constitution is both the oldest and shortest written constitution in the world. It serves as the supreme law of the United States.
