Everyone goes through different events in their life that has changed the person they are today. In the play "A Streetcar Named Desire" one of the main character Blanche tries to hide her past trauma, but it ends up being too much for her to handle. Although many people are quick to judge Blanche as crazy, she is just a victim of her traumatic and emotional past. Blanche suffered many deaths throughout her life, but the one that impacted her the most was the death of the love of her life. Blanche is a typical southern woman, except the fact that she is unmarried and has no children. This is hard for Blanche to except, but part of the reason she is unmarried comes from her past love. Stella would come back for the funerals, but then return home. The burden of their family home Bella Reve and the grief of these deaths fell on Blanche. Blanche had to pay for all the funerals while maintaining Belle Reve on a teacher's salary (page 1546). Therapy was a taboo thing, so there was no way for Blanche to seek professional help. Blanche lost Belle Reve and her job as a teacher and had to go live with Stella in New Orleans. This would be a fresh start for Blanche, to forget about everything that happen in the past and make a better life. Once Blanche arrived she started lying to cover her dark past. Stella's husband Stanley caught on and made it his mission to reveal her true identity. This made Blanche go insane always having someone out to get her instead of helping her. To add to all that Blanche has already gone through, Stanley rapes her. No one believes Blanche, because of all the lies she has told before and her sister Stella sends her to an insane asylum. Stella and Stanley were quick to judge Blanche as mad that, they never looked to see why she was this way and they could help
