His name is Orion. This name means rising in the sky, dawning, and this perfectly fits him. Orion is a constellation in the sky who is extremely well known to people all over the world. He can be simply recognizable and is easily found by looking for the three stars that make up his belt. Thousands of years ago, the ancient Greeks saw a design by stars in the sky that looked as if though it was a warrior. These people named it Orion.
The story of Orion goes along with Greek mythology. There are so many stories of how he constellations came to be. There are many created by the Greeks about how Orion came to be. They differentiate just basically based on who is parents were. In the most well known story of him, Orion was seen as the son of Poseidon and Queen Euryale. Poseidon was the god of the sea while Queen Euryale was an amazing hunter. Orion, who developed the talent of his mother, also became a great hunter himself. Over time though, Orion became to grow quite a bit of an ego. He was a fantastic hunter, but he got a little carried away. He thought he could kill every animal that came across his path. Until one day, a small scorpion came and stung him, which caused him to die in his vanity.

He consists of many stars, but only eight of which are major. These are the stars of Betelgeuse, Saiph, Bellatrix, Rigel, Meissa, Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka. Rigel and Betelgeuse, which are found in the constellation of Orion are two of the ten brightest stars that of which we can see in our sky. Betelgeuse forms his left shoulder while Bellatrix forms his right shoulder. Orion’s head is made by one star called Meissa. His left foot is formed by Saiph and the right formed by Rigel. Ptoloemy first charted the constellation during the second century. According to christian mythology, draco the dragon was first known to have tempted Eve at the garden of Eden. The constellation draco the dragon takes an aera of one-thousand eighty three square degrees. Draco the dragon has five known stars that have planets around them. Poseidon is the god of the sea, he was involved in the Trojan war, and he is one of the big three. First Poseidon was eaten by his father, his brother Zeus rescued him by defeating Cronus and giving Poseidon control of the sea, earthquakes, hurricanes, and horses. Second Poseidon was involved in the Trojan war because of Odysseus, Odysseus made a horse statue resembling the god Poseidon which was brought into the walls of Troy. Third Poseidon is one of the big three because he controls the sea, his other two brothers Zeus and Hades are also the big three Zeus controls the sky and Hades controls the underworld.
Perseus, or “the hero,” has twenty-eight stars. The brightest, most recognizable ones are Mirfak and Algol. Mirfak is the brightest star of Perseus. It is a little bit brighter than Polaris, the North Star. Algol is the most famous star. In the constellation, Algol is the eye of Medusa, translating to “demon star.” People used to think that Algol was cursed due to its constant change in brightness, but we know today that sometimes another star overlaps Algol, causing its magnitude to appear to change. After recognizing that Rick Riordan’s novels from the Percy Jackson series would not suffice as research, I began my development of knowledge on Perseus and Pegasus with research. Beginning with the magazines Sky & Telescope and Astronomy and the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics, I viewed countless photographs of the constellations before turning to other websites to learn about the mythology and other basic information.
The constellation Capricorn is located in the Southern Hemisphere. To identify it, look in the sky for an arrowhead-shaped constellation. “To find it look for the summer triangle and make a line from Vega through Altair to the lower southern sky” (Zimmerman 3). It has a latitude of +60,-90. You can normally see it in September around nine o’ clock P.M. Capricorn has approximately 27 stars in its Constellation. The three brightest stars, Alpha2, Deneb Algedi, and Omega, form a triangle in the sky that makes it easier to see Capricorn. The brightest star in Capricorn is Deneb Algedi with a magnitude of 2.85. It’s a white giant and has a temperature of 7700 kelvin. It’s a type A star that is 8.5 times brighter than the sun. It is most likely to be in the last stage of ordinary star-type life. Scientists are saying the sun’s older twin is found in the middle of Capricorn. Studying this star will help them see how the Earth’s sun will develop. Capricorn is well known for its several notable stars and its globular cluster Messier 30 (A Guide to the Night Sky 1, Kaler 1,Kornmessser 3, Zimmermann 1). “Also, there are five meteor showers associated with Capricornus: the Alpha Capricornids, the Chi Capricornids, the Sigma Capricornids, the Tau Capricornids, and the Capricorniden Sagittarids” (A Guide to the Night Sky 1).
Poseidon is a god of many names. He is most famous as the god of the sea. The son of Cronus and Rhea, Poseidon is one of six siblings who eventually "divided the power of the world." His brothers and sisters include: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Zeus. The division of the universe involved him and his brothers, Zeus and Hades. Poseidon became ruler of the sea, Zeus ruled the sky, and Hades got the underworld. The other divinities attributed to Poseidon involve the god of earthquakes and the god of horses. The symbols associated with Poseidon include: dolphins, tridents, and three-pronged fish spears.
At Beltane the Pleiades star cluster rises just before sunrise on the morning horizon. The Pleiades is a cluster of seven closely placed stars, the seven sisters, in the constellation of Taurus, near his shoulder. When looking for the Pleiades with the naked eye, remember it looks like a tiny dipper-shaped pattern of six moderately bright star in the constellation of Taurus. It stands very low in the east-northeast sky for just a few minutes before sunrise.
The Orion Nebula contains one of the brightest star clusters in the night sky. With a magnitude of 4, this nebula is easily visible from the Northern Hemisphere during the winter months. It is surprising, therefore, that this region was not documented until 1610 by a French lawyer named Nicholas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc. On March 4, 1769, Charles Messier inducted the Orion Nebula, M42, into his list of stellar objects. Then, in 1771, Messier released his list of objects for its first publication in Memoires de l’Academie.1
In the beginning, it all started with the gods and goddesses Cronus (God of the Sky) and Rhea (Goddess of the Earth). They met and got married. While they were married they produced six offspring. These offspring would turn out to be some of the most famous in mythology. The offspring consisted of Hestia, Hades, Poseidon, Demeter, Hera, and of course, the famous Zeus. Poseidon was the oldest son to be born from these two. Unfortunately when the offspring were born Cronus devoured most, even though Rhea tried many times to keep that from happening. Finally when Zeus was born she tricked Cronus into thinking it was his own son, when handed to him, and he eat him like all the others. But after doing so, Rhea told Cronus that she had given him a stone wrapped up in a blanket. Zeus later overthrew his father and released all of his other kin. After overthrowing Cronus, Zeus took over the ruler of the kingdom. With him taking the thrown on Mt. Olympus, he chose Hades to rule the underworld and Poseidon to look after the sea and land. I was born with an inherent fascination for all things celestial. Ever since I was young, I have been staring at the night sky trying to find constellations, or using my juvenile imagination to create my own. My efforts to find, view, and mentally catalogue everything the heavenly bodies have to offer has led me to employ some over-the-top measures, but the most extreme of them all might be the night I stayed awake through the wee hours of the morning to catch a glimpse of a meteor shower. Over the course of an entire year, the memory of this stupefying event is still as lucent and vivid as it was that very night so long ago.

Poseidon had quite a bit of affairs. One affair involved his sister Demeter. He thought she was absolutely beautiful and desired her deeply.
