One element that makes this speech effective is Jobs use of pathos, which are emotional appeals. The emotional appeals he uses, includes the stories of dropping out of college, getting fired from Apple, and then later being diagnosed with cancer. Jobs dropped out of college because he had no idea what he wanted to do with his life and he felt it was a waste of his parents’ life savings. He stopped taking the required classes, and began dropping in on ones that interested him.

By incorporating devices of asyndeton, paradox, antimetabole, and anadiplosis, McCullough conveys to each student that even though none of them is unique, their commonality is not a fault they all have merit and should strive to view the world through a more selfless lens.

Trump’s speech effectively offers a new vision of our government, by connecting to people emotionally and logically, however lacking many facts and playing more off his credibility, many people questions his point in saying “empty talk is over.”

The main goal of his speech was to get the point across to the nation about the increasing problem of gun use. His speech really focused on the issue of gun control and if it would benefit the country. Overall, the biggest idea of his Address was that gun control is a large issue in the United States. On March 18, 2008, at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Barack Obama took the stage and delivered a speech that would portray the racial landscape of his presidency. In his speech, Obama points out rhetorical tactics to support his argument that we as Americans in this country need to be united for racial equality to exist. He begins his speech with a back story to highlight the kairotic moment present, then appeals to pathos through lots of examples of racial injustice to signify the need for such change, and then uses his appeals to ethos to suggest ways of change for Americans, both black and white. The speech was very successful: people from both sides praised his bravery, and later the same year, Obama demolished McCain in a close victory to secure his presidency.

Each story contains one or two main lessons intended to help these Stanford Graduates as they move on into a new world. However, with the happily ever after stories, promises in leaps of faith, and ideally controversial context with college graduates, the speech seems to be a bit less relatively persuasive .
Jobs starts his speech with humor. He said, “I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation,” this statement instantly added an element of humor to his speech and this was well observed by the audience. The opening statements of the speech automatically lightened the mood. Steve jobs’ introduction appeals to the emotions of the audience, giving Jobs a valuable opening into the rest of his speech.
