Stereotyping and labeling is a part of our everyday life; we hear them every day and everywhere. In some cases, we can get ourselves in a circumstance where we make judgmental comments toward a large group of people. This situation causes every person, young or old, is labelled with relationship problems with others, leading to aggressive actions, and people interacting only with their own race.
There is a difference between being labeled and stereotyped. Labeling would be done to one individual, and placing them in a category. As for stereotyping it is told as a group of people such as a certain race. This raises the issue of people missing out on opportunities because this problem puts labels about how a person should act or live according to their sex, race, and personality. Affecting people who like to do different activities, but feel guilty of doing it because of stereotypes and labeling. This causes separation in our society, people not getting along with others due to the color of their skin or that one man that looks gay. Many situations have happened toward different race and different sexuality, such as the black lives matter movement there has been many stories’ and much hatred toward cops. One negative effect is harm problems with fighting and threatening encounters to the point they can’t be handled. Such as police brutality, race on race crimes affecting family’s and relationships. According to U.S News article, “Stereotyping Has Lasting Negative Impact”, research has been done that prejudice has a lasting negative impact on those who experience it. Michael Inzlicht, a Psychology Professor at the University of Toronto Scarborough, says “Past studies have shown that people perform poorly in situations where they feel they are being stereotyped”.
