I ran away from Kathmandu School of Law in 2003 to join Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation under Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation to work as a permanent employee in the post of park ranger. I did not do so, because I couldn’t afford the tuition fee. The school had rewarded me the scholarship that covered tuition fee, accommodation as well as other expenses. I ran away, because I had realized that my decision of switching from forestry to law had blurred my professional goal. Another reason behind doing so was my urgent obligation to earn some food for my starving parents. I want to become the first Secretary of Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation in Nepal from disadvantaged (so-called untouchable) community. After I completed Bachelor’s of Science in Forestry (B.Sc. Forestry), I returned to my previous job of park ranger. In July 2013, Public Service Commission selected me through the competitive examination of gazetted third class officer and appointed as an Assistant Research Officer of Department of Forest Research and Survey. The Vertex provides both the tree height and location of the tree in just two clicks. This instrument is new for all the foresters who have been working here. Once, my director general called me in his cabin and asked me whether I could operate the LINTAB, a tree ring-measuring instrument. The Japan Government had recently provided the instrument. The instruments are new for us because we only heard of/about instruments in our university. My studying in the U.S. will provide me the opportunity not only to use the Vertex and the LINTAB, and many other sophisticated instruments but also to learn the know-hows in forestry that I can only dream from here. Replicating advance knowledge and technologies in forestry sector can scale forestry sector's contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) up. I will do so after my return to my country.
