Starbuck Sightings While sitting at a table over by a window in Starbucks, I was able to see many different behaviors that one would typically see at a coffee shop. When sitting alone at a table, you wouldn’t expect a stranger to come over and sit next to you and start a conversation. That is typically not something you would see many people doing. Starbucks is a public place on campus that people come to eat, drink, and socialize with their friends. While observing, I noticed a routine chain of events that occurred pretty much every time someone walked through the doors. I noticed that more girls than guys tend to come to Starbucks, whether it be to just grab a drink or to sit down and socialize. During my initial visit to the research site, I came at noon time, thinking that it would be busy, however, my findings were wrong, it was the complete opposite. Only a few people who walked in the door after me sat down to enjoy their coffee before heading off to class or work on homework. Whether it was just to get out of the rain or not, I started to see a trend that people were conforming to, whether they knew it or not. As people left, two to three more seemed to pile in to get in line before it got too long. People buying coffee and trying to warn off the rain before they had to run across campus to get to class on time. People always seemed to gravitate towards this one table in Starbucks, the long table with outlets in built in to charger laptops, phones, etc. Most people try to sit there so they can charge up their devices to they can either work on homework or have it charged up enough to get through an hour or so of class, I know this because I have done in
